You need to install the OS (operating system). Insert the OS cd into the cd-rom and reboot. When it says "Press any key to boot from CD" press a button.. Then follow the on screen prompts to install the OS onto the hard drive.
Do you have the OS install CD? Hope you do... if not you may be out of luck unless you can borrow a copy from someone. To use your original OEM code it would have to be the exact version OS originally installed on the PC. Dont toss that bad drive yet though. After reinstalling the OS, add the bad drive as a slave and unless you beat it to death... you should be able to access most of the files on the old drive. Good Luck.
Either the HDD controller is bad or the HDDs you used have bad sectors.HDD regenerator software alot of times will correct the bad sectors and then the OS will install correctly and function smoothly.
If you put a BootCD in the CD drive then turn the system on you should be able to format the HDD from the CD. Also, your new operating system disk should allow you to reformat the HDD. Just put the CD in and start the computer up again. Watch for a message to press the spacebar or any other key to boot from the CD.
Try to get a screwdriver and take of the small backpanel at the back of your laptop, take out and put back the hdd, if it's a contact problam that should do it. If HDD is dead than use your warrenty or buy a new one at your local store, they'll even fit it for you sourely. If the HDD is fine and the OS turns out to be dead than try to boot from OS install disk if you have any and see fi you can reinstall the OS, for that maybe you'll need to change the boot sequence in bios to boot from CD/DVD first.
I will agree, that uncertified OS often come back with refusals to install certain files as those files weren't copied correctly.
It's also possible that your OS disc is old and very scratched, which could cause information transfer issues. I suggest either using, or getting a DiscDr. if at all possible. They really do work, and it might save you from having to purchase another OS.
