Hi! The F51 filter can be rinsed to clean. Hold the pleated filter under running water to rinse. Do not use any soap or detergent. Allow filter 24 hours to air dry before replacing in the vacuum. The foam filter can be washed the same way. The filter should be replaced about once a year. I have included a link where you may go to purchase a replacement filter if needed. Thanks!

Cleaning filter on DC14

You should wash the foam filter and plastic frame it fits in very frequently. Be sure to dry thoroughly or you will suck moisture into your motor. If you hold the plastic frame up to the light you should be able to see through the mesh type material. If you can't, replace the filter. The HEPA filter cannot be washed. For best performance and longer life of the vacuum replace the filters about once per year.

How do I get Bissell Proheat 2X to work. Not dispensing water.

Did you clean the filter on the water tank. It's generally a red screen type device. Additionally, there is a filter under the Flow Indicator, unscrew the cap, lift out the propeller, lift the filter screen and clean it. Reassemble in reverse order. If you occassionally run one and half cups of white vinager through the machine it will clean out the calc buildup. Additionally, the filters should be cleaned after each use.

How should I clean the ribbed filter? Can I rinse it under a tap?

If it is a heap filter just replace it. If it is a foam type clean it an let it dry. Then put back in unit. Heap filters are like a paper with a wax on them an are very stiff. Just get a new one they last for years.

How to clean

There are 2 Filters that should be washed every 3 months. they are labeled as filter A and Filter B. They only neet to be washed with water. if you use any type of soap or cleaner it will actually damage the filters and they will need to be replaced.
Another part of the vacuum that can be cleaned is the clear bin assembly. REMOVE it from the cyclone before cleaning it. DO NOT get the cyclone wet. it will damage the machine. but again just water and a rag on the bin assy will work great any type of cleaner will actually cause the bin to get foggy.
The only other part to be cleaned is the roller brush. what i would recommed is to take a box cutter, and to cut the length of the roller. all of the hair and fibers on there. then turn the roller brush 180 degrees and cut it again. then turn the vacuum on and vacuum with it for a minute and the debris from the roller brush should be gone.

I would suggest getting a new filter. In my experience washing this type of filter can clog the pores so air can't pass through. I prefer to blow them out with a compressor. I would replace them at least once per year.

Hoover mach 3 cyclone vacuum shut off during useage. can't turn it on. cleaned it out and let it sit thinking overheated? this is 2 months old. help?

I had same problem. Turned out to be the filter that sits above the waste cannister. Remove the waste cannister. There is a little orange lever that releases the filter. It was caked with dirt not allowing any air flow causing the motor to overheat.

This foam filter gets dirty pretty fast.
