I could not find a Singer Merritt 3014 nor a Singer 8280. Do you have the serial number and/or model number? You can always try this site:

Upon further reflection, most sewing machine needles are universal, so any needle SHOULD fit. The only consideration would be 'what type' you need, i.e. ballpoint, sharp, heavy, for like denim, etc. Just be sure you put it in correctly, with the flat side facing the proper way. Again, nearly any sewing machine needle should work.
