Question about Texas Instruments TI-86 Calculator

I entered a simple equation y=-1.5x+3 and hit 2nd then F5 and get an eror message instead of a graph. How do I fix it, so I can graph?

Error 07 Syntax

Means you made a typing error while entering the equation. Using the minus sign instead of the negation sign (change sign) (-), can produce a syntax error. Maybe you need to explicitly type the multiplication sign

y= (-) 1.5*x +3

Try entering it as 3 - 1.5*x

SOURCE: My calculator will only graph one graph at a time.

This is simple... Back up all RAM, (press second+, then 2, then 1, press enter to back up something if backed up it will have a star by it) Then clear your RAM (pull out your batteries while the calc is still on or press second+, then 7, then 1)

Hope this helps!

If the message appears when you try to graph functions deactivate the
statistical plots. To do so:

Press [2nd][Y=] to access (STAT PLOTs)

Select [4:PlotsOff] then [ENTER]

That should solve your problem. Post a comment to this thread if you still have trouble graphing.

If the message appears in another context, it sure would help knowing the context of the error.

You're trying to graph a function that does not involve stat plot features. You can correct this by turning off the stat plot features. Press "2ND" "STAT PLOT" and then select 4:PlotsOff.
