Question about Amana ARSE67RBB / ARSE67RBW / ARSE67RBC Side by Side Refrigerator

Quick Fix? Amana model Arse67rbb, compressor seems to stop working, makes a noise like it wants to kick in, but does not. If I unplug it for a few hours it will work fine for a few days that the cycle starts again!

    Can I get by, replacing the capacitor and overload relay? How do I go about making a claim with Amana?

    A&E service came out, spent about 10 mins looking at it. and just as you said. I will be getting a new compressor installed free of charge!! I did not even have to pay 59.00 service charge..

Question? What if you don't have a warranty? Is it worth it to replace the compressor, or should I just purchase a new fridge?

The compressor is locking up when it gets hot. We have seen alot of this on the units with Tecumseh compressors. If it is less than 5 yrs old it should still be covered by the sealed system warranty and repaired free of charge.
If it is out of any warranty, there are "fit-all" compressor starters with start capacitors built in them that give it a little extra boost on start-up. They are called 3-in-1 or kickstart starters. This will usually buy you a few months until you can replace fridge.
If it is covered by warranty but will take a few days to get repaired, you can get by ok by unplugging fridge at night and plugging back in in the morning. This is what I tell my customers when I have to order a compressor and so far they have been able to keep from losing food.

    With the symptom you describe, changing the relay and overload probably won't help.Here is the link to Amana customer sevice.

    You can get contact numbers and find local authorized servicers from this site. I would recommend contacting Amana first and letting them set up a service call through their network.

    As I read your first comment I was thinking I would tell you that the $59 would be waived but then I read your second comment. I am glad you asked before you had someone come out. I go out to a lot of fridges that independant repairmen have been to and screwed something up that caused me to have to void any warranty that the customer might still have. Sometimes us authorized servicers screw up too, but at least it won't void our customer's warranty if we do.

Unplug it for 30 minutes to an hour and it should start up again. Problem is your compressor is no good. Get ready for a new fridge in 3-6 months.

Amana ABB222DE is the overload/capacitor the same thing as the compressor relay? I just had the compressor relay replaced in amana bottom mount. Frig cools fine but every 2 days or so buzzing noise...

I have been doing refrigeration for over 30 years and I have never seen a compressor with a chip inside of it. Have you tried cleaning the condensor coils? I almost sounds like you have a weak start capacitor. Let me know if i can help you any futher.

Amana refrigerator/freezer started making a buzzing noise and stopped working. Inside lights do work, but nothing cools.

based on your description i would guess that the start relay on the compressor has failed or the compressor it self is the buzz you are hearing... if the noise would come and last for 5-20 seconds and then stop or click sound made then that is the compressor trying to start but kicking out on overload. it usually after sometimes a few minutes or sometimes in thirty minutes will try again once the compressor gets hot enought it may take longer.. you will have to gain access to rear of unit and on compressor is a relay that may have failed. make a drawing of the wires and remove sometimes (2) seperate pieces see if it rattles or smells burnt. if so get you a new relay and may have caught it early enough to not have done any other damage... repost with anymore questions good luck to you...

My Amana fridge (model ARSE67RBB) compressor has stopped working. It locks up when it gets too hot, and then makes a high pitched buzzing sound. I purchased the fridge used, so I don't think Amana is...

The buzzing noise is the compressor stalled and trying to start. Is the condensor fan working? (the fan at the back by the compressor) as if it's not it could cause this issue. If the rest of the unit is in good condition then yes I'd replace the compressor as these are normally good models and aren't cheap to buy new. This problem shouldn't happen again if you have a good new compressor installed by an expert. cheers

How to check stuff>

. Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running.If no check starter/overload relay.

Amana refrigerators is not staying cold and freezer is not freezing. Makes a "humming" sound, on and off, like a low "grind" noise, or like the noise an airconditioner makes prior to kicking on.

Mine had the same problem, and I had a tech out today who determined it's the motor inside the freezer. It's (the fan) not running. It's a $100 part, but if your refrigerator is new enough, it's probably worth the investment to go ahead and have it fixed.

Gazzo, You are on the right track. I've been finding a lot of compressor failures on these Amana's. It's possible that the overload and relay for the compressor failed, but Im more inclined, from what I've seen, that the compressor is the problem. The compressor is covered under warranty, parts and labor for 5 years. I would call for warranty back.
