Netgear 3G Broadband Router won't connect to the internet

I bought a Netgear MBR624GU 3G Mobile Broadband Router and have set it up. I can connect to the wireless network on other computers. When I put the activated 3G USB modem (Huawei e160G on the Australian ''3'' network) and run the wizard it detects the modem then gets caught on ''Scanning the network'' it doesn't get past this point. I then go to the router UI (http://192.168.0.1) and it says that it is constantly ''detecting modem''.

I've read something about the network and modem having the same ip therefore cancelling each other out. but everything I think of doesn't work.

Hi,

Please note that the USB Modem will not cause issues related to IP address conflict(NAT behing NAT)
You need to mak sure that the USB modem is compatible with this router. As per the compatibility list this modem is comaptible.
http://www.netgear.com/Landing/en-us/3G_uSB_Modems

Please reset the router once and then upgrade the firmware on the router which can be downloaded from thelink below:

http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7210

after upgrading the firmware, configure the router.

How to install a Wireless-N 3G MIMO Broadband Router

What are you trying to connect with ? A laptop? What kind? What OS are you using? If it's connected correctly and you can access the internet with a Ethernet Cable attached to the Netgear and the computer, it may be a computer wireless issue.

Can a mbr624gu be used for anything else other than a 3g modem if you are no longer using a 3g usb device? such as a wireless router or a wireless bridge?

A wireless switch should be possible, try disabling its DHCP service and rely on your internet source for handing IPs to computers. this way your NetGear router is more of a switch than a router. of course, a wire connection between your Netgear router and the internet source is a must.

good luck,

Sort of. It looks like Vodafone doesn't want people using routers with this device. You may be able to get around that if your router has the 'spoof mac address' functionality, but I imagine that's against Vodafone's Terms of Service.

Having a compability issue with my Netgear MBR624GU and Verizon's new LG VL600. The MBR624GU is compatible with 3G but not 4G?

This is something you need to talk to LG about or look in the LG forums. It is not that the router is incompatible it is most likely the phone protocols. It may be worth talking to your network provider and raising it as an issue.
Have you tried it successfully with any other routers?
Good luck

If you connect the computer directly to the modem, does it work?
If that works then the modem is working.
Now connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
You will need to open the set up page of the router to check the settings of the router.
You can set up the router without the CD also.
It is very easy.
