I bought this used 2 months ago. It worked great until tonight, when the screen went blank. I look up, and the 'power' button is solid red, and the 'heat' button is flashing.
Go to http://files.support.epson.com/pdf/pl83pl/pl83pl00ug.pdf#page=80&view=FitV&pagemode=none page 80, "What to do when the lights flash" . If that doesn't do it or it's not clear, please get back to me.
Bummer. However, It may still be in warranty; many projectors carry 3 yr factory warranty, and if you paid with a credit card, you may have an additional year through Visa (or whatever). I'll be rooting for ya!
I'm with you. Of course, you will unplug it first and wait a few minutes for any capacitors to discharge. If you have to disassemble anything, consider taking pictures or making sketches. Also: though the fan itself, if not running or running slow, is the most likely culprit, it's also possible that the control circuitry (including temp sensors) may be defective.
I'll see if I dig up the disassembly procedure and fan part numbers and get back to you shortly.

Thanks for the help. I'm sure i'll be able to solve the problem once i have the money for a new power supply. I'll have to locate one first.
I called epson, then a local repair place. The repair place says it's 1 of 4 fans that are failing, causing it to overheat. That sounds logical, as the screen comes on, then goes off, and it sounds like one of the fans isn't kicking on. The epson guy says it's dangerous to work on the pro. with the cover off without experience. I'm not stupid, so i would rather damage it myself, then get overcharged for a repair tech. to fix it.
