Can not receive faxes

The LCD displays <RING START TIME>. 5 Press [Start/Copy]. 6 Use the numeric buttons, or [{] or [}] to enter the time the fax waits before ringing when it receives a call, then press [Start/Copy] twice. 7 Use the numeric buttons, or [{] or [}] to enter the time the fax rings while waiting for someone to pick up the Handset, then press [Start/Copy] twice. The LCD displays <RECEIVE>. Note ??? If paper jams, see "Troubleshooting" on page 53. ??? If the Ink Lamp lights up faxes will be received to memory. 8SEC. 22SEC. Use [{] or [}] to select <RECEIVE> or <DISCONNECT>, then press [Start/Copy]. This setting tells the fax what to do if the Handset is not picked up within the specified ring time set in step 6. 9 Press [Stop]. Setting ends and the fax returns to standby mode.

Is the phone line working? Do you have any devices connected to the phone line that pick up before the fax machine? Make sure the machine has paper and is set to FAX or AUTO. Is there a Memory Full error? Clear the memory (Setup > Memory Clear then press Start/Enter. Use the left and right arrows to select the items to remove. Press Start/Enter twice (second time to confirm the choice). Repeat until all memory is cleared that you wish to clear. Then press Stop to exit.)

If you are using the ANS/FAX mode and have an answering machine connected to the extension port, disconnect the anwering machine and switch to FAX or AUTO. Check if the machine receives faxes. Sometimes the extra device causes interference. Call the fax machine from a different phone number and see if you hear the fax tones.

Check that the Junk Fax barrier is off, if the incoming call is from a machine that is not listed in your speed dial database. If you have a distinctive ring, make sure that the Fax machine has learned the ring by pressing Setup go to DRPD. Choose Set and call the fax machine from another phone. The LCD will say Waiting Ring until it gets that call and then once the ring is learned will say END DRPD Setup

(If you have a phone company voice mail service, the faxes may end up stuck in that box. It depends on how many rings the fax is set to wait before picking up versus when the voice mail opens to take the call.)

the fax may be out of ink, out of paper , or set in the manual mode , I would think its set in the manual mode and has to be reset in the auto mode, go to settings , receive mode and set to auto.

hp laserjet is not a fax.It is only a printer.

These units only ring under two circumstances. First the external phone must be attached. It has a volume slider on the phone. Second. The recieve mode must be st for Fax/Tel not anything else

Is your fax set on AUTO REC mode? It sounds like it got tripped into MANUAL MODE for some reason.

Receive Mode Settings Select from the following receive mode options to suit your needs. Once you've decided on which receive mode to use, follow the below instructions to set the receive mode using the operation panel. Receive Mode Setting

3. Press the right or left arrow button to select [Receive mode settings], then press the <OK> button.
   
4. Press the up or down arrow to select the receive mode that best suits your needs, then press <OK>.

ANS.MACHINE MODE When you want to receive voice messages on your answering machine and receive faxes automatically. FAX/TEL auto switch
FAX :
The machine does not ring but will receive the fax automatically. Voice call :
The phone attached to the machine will ring. Pick up the handset to answer the call. Note:

• Ring start timing and Telephone ring length can be specified in FAX/TEL auto switch in the Receive mode settings.
  
• If you want the telephone to ring when it receives a fax, connect a telephone to your machine and enable the Incoming ring settings in RX settings.
  
• The phone attached to the machine may not ring depending on the telephone type you are using.

FAX only
FAX * :
The telephone does not ring. The machine will receive the fax automatically. Voice call :
You will not be able to answer the call. * If you want the telephone to ring, connect the telephone to your machine and enable the Incoming ring settings in RX settings menu.


DRPD
FAX :
Your telephone line will ring according to the ring pattern you have chosen and receive the fax automatically. Voice call :
Your telephone line will ring according to the ring pattern you have chosen. Pick up the handset to answer the call. Note: Specify the FAX pattern in the DRPD: Set FAX ring pat. in RX settings menu.

Manual RX
FAX :
The telephone attached to the machine will ring. Pick up the handset and if you hear a beep tone, press the <Color> or <Black> button on the machine to receive the fax. Voice call :
The telephone attached to the machine will ring. Pick up the handset to answer the call. Note: If you are far from your machine, you can use the remote receiving function to receive faxes. Pick up the handset of the telephone connected to the machine and press 25 (the remote receiving ID).

First the answering machine connected to your machine will respond to an incoming call, and then the machine will receive faxes automatically. Voice call :
The answering machine connected to your machine will respond to an incoming call. Note:

• Set the answering machine to answer on the first or second ring.
  
• The entire message should be no longer than 15
  

check the setting in the receive mode button. set it to fax

The machine is probably set to "manual receive." Check the receive mode. In "Manual" mode the machine will ring until the start" button is pressed. Fax mode will allow the machine to receive faxes as will the "Auto" mode which will allow both faxes and telephone calls automatically.

TAD is Telephone Answering Device. TAD mode is the only mode that can be used with an external telephone answering device (unless you are using a distinctive ring number for receiving faxes). Your telephone answering device must be connected to the jack on the fax machine (labeled "EXT" for USA). When someone dials your telephone/fax number (to send a fax or to speak to you), all the telephones (including the FAX) will ring according to the number of rings you set on the TAD. The Ring Delay setting is not recognized in the TAD mode. If you do not answer the call, the TAD will answer. As your outgoing message is playing, the Fax is in the background, silently listening for fax tones. If the FAX hears fax tones, it will automatically go into the receive mode. If the FAX does not hear fax tones, it remains silent, allowing the caller to leave a message. The above information is correct for a Brother fax machine. Is your fax automatically picking up the call or do you have to push a panel button to start the receive fax process? Perhaps the fax is already "in" your fax machine's memory and only needs a manual printout. Check the fax call log.
