Excessive noise extremely noisy (very loud banging) at the start + all the way through spin cycle

I took the back off the washer, it sounds like a bearing is bad, but it also sounds like something clanking around in there. Tries to spin, but not doing a very good job. The noise is definitely coming from the back, inside the drum.

Does the drum have to come apart or is it accessible through pulley area?

I used to repair appliances years ago. I just have regular tools.

Do the shocks wear out? It seems like it is settling. This is a different animal to me.

    Thanks, Mike.

    Is this reparable?

the spin cycle is very noisy and out of balance regardless of what is in the drum.

The drum wobbles rather than floats like it should. It sounds like I am washing tennis shoes when I am only washing clothing.

I had the same problem. Two things were bad. One was the shock absorber and must be changed out as a pair. Also one of the springs that supports the tub was broken. My guess is that the spring broke and the shock failed shortly after. since it was more easily accessible and appeared to be the problem, I replaced the broken shock. Only to find the spring was broken too. After replacing the spring, its worked fine for a couple of years. Obviously I'm looking at this site because I'm having another problem, but this time I think it is the tub bearing.

Hmm... Kind of difficult to say for sure. Does your inner spin basket wiggle up and down? If so, you've got a main bearing going. Also, put it in a spin cycle for a minute or so and then try smelling the windings on your main motor. If they smell burnt, you'll need to replace the main motor. Also, one last thought, check to see if your drain pump overheats. I say this because the drain pump is active during the spin cycle and a bad drain pump can sound extremely noisy and start overheating.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Loud banging noise during rinse

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the rinse or spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary. This will solve your problem.

Hi
Remove the drum belt, and spin drum by hand.
If it feels rough, or it is noisy, then drum bearigs have failed.
Please rate my solution.
