Loud Noise from 76081 AC

Well the Air conditionar was bought sometime in summer 2005 and it suddenly (this summer) started making a loud noise whenever the Cooling Cycle starts. I clean the filter prior to the summer season I have no idea why it would suddenly start "going bad" when its used maybe 5 hours a day or so 3 months out of the year. the sound is really loud and annoying is it safe to continue to use it? and is there anyways I could fix it (hopefully with just a screwdriver ha! )

The chances are you are damaging your A/C with each use that makes that loud sound. What kind of loud sound is it? Is it like a rattling sound? Here's a great, handy diagnostic article on that, specifying probable causes of it:

http://yourhandymanzone.com/Your_Handyman_Zone_How_To_Pages_Home_Improvement_Zone_Cooling_Ventilation_Systems_Central_Air_Conditioning_Making_Rattling_Sound.htm

You also might want to take advantage of the text-link that offers up to four (4) free A/C contractor estimates from those in your area--you can "pick their brains" as to what they think is specifically going on with your A/C and attempt to then use their information to fix the A/C on your own, or, altogether, and for the better, pick the best-priced estimate and have it resolved this hot summer season before more damage is done.

Good luck!
Brad

New A/C Unit makes loud noise when it starts up

It shouldn't be too loud. You don't explain where the noise is coming from? The air handler/furnace or the outdoor unit.

I have a 2003 chevy cavalier. i just recharged the ac but when i put it on high it makes a loud noise. tracked the noise down to under the dash on the passenger side. what is that part called and should it...

THE LOUD NOISE IS PROBABLY COMING FROM THE BLOWER MOTOR WHICH IS LOCATED IN THAT AREA. THESE SOMETIMES MAKE A LITTLE NOISE BUT IF THIS NOISE IS LOUD OR JUST DOESNT SOUND RIGHT, THE MOTOR COULD BE GOING BAD.

I have a Montero Sport 2003, last week I had Freon added to be prepared for the summer, I noticed a noise and ask the mechanic, he said it was the fan but nothing to worry about. I drove the Montero for 2...

If the noise started after you added the Freon, then it perhaps is your AC clutch. Normally if you have an automatic AC system, then when the Freon gets low, the auto system will not allow the AC to engage, only allowing the fan to circulate outside air. In order to add Freon to the system, the AC lock out has to be over ridden, in order for the compressor to **** in the Freon. This in turn engages the AC system so that the clutch engages, thus engages your AC system. The clutch bearings may be at fault.

Makes loud noise when first turned on

It may have been damaged in shipping or from the manufacturer. I would consider exchanging it for a new one.
