Error SC 542 indicates a fuser temperature problem. Once the error is detected, the printer is toast until you manually clear the error from the keypad. SC542 is a warm up error from the fuser.

SC 870 is an address book error.

Turn the power off on the copier. Wait 30 seconds and then turn the power back on. See if it goes away.

Let me know if it doesn't.
