Might be tuned to the wrong output. The big tv has more than one input and is select able. Is there a blue ray selection for TV or input for that device.

The 5.1 speakers should be connected to the blue ray player, then another set of cables from your BD player to your TV. did you hook the dvd player or xbox 360 to see it if still works after ps3? if still no result, it's most likely that the motherboard in the lcd shorted out.
If your laptp has Blue Ray DVD it likely has an HDMI out jack. Connect this to the HDMI input of you tv. If you TV does not have and HDMI jack but had a DTV jack then get an HDMI to DTV adaptor.
Yes, there is an adapter which will take the hdmi output of the blue-ray and convert it to dvi. You will also need to connect the blue-ray audio out (rca jacks) since the hdmi is both audio and video (digital) and the dvi is video only.
