SOURCE: dropped a WD passport drive, now it won't load. HELP!

Unfortunately, these drives are not made to be dropped.

It sounds like it was damaged by the drop which could have rendered the read/write heads inoperable or mis-aligned.

Contact Western Digital for a warranty replacement.

WD 1TB light is on but not blinking and can not be read

You can try to open the hard drive cabinet and to put the hard drive into another cabinet in order to see if the problem comes from the unit itself

My wd passport has just stopped registering but lights on and beeps 3 times when turned on.

the beeps are post during post the very first work is done by the ram,all the memory in the ram is first transferred to the hard disk, and remains active untill turned off.
make sure that your RAM is securely seated
test or replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive make sure the connections are secure
hope this helps

I have a 500g Western digital my passport. I have owned it for almost a year now. It fell off my dress just now and is not working properly. My computer recognizes it's existence and tells me the device is...

Something mechanically has gone wrong with the disk-drive inside the enclosure.

Search online for a professional "data recovery service".
They can disassemble the enclosure, disassemble the disk-drive, and fix it just long-enough to copy your files (onto another disk or onto blank DVD-writable media). Not "inexpensive".

Then, you can use WD's "Customer Loyalty Program", i.e., prove that you previously purchased a WD product, and you'll get a discount on buying another WD product, if you purchase through their web-site (and pay for shipping).

My WD external hard drive does not stay recognized on my computer. When I first plug it in it makes the ding/beep noise and shows up on "my computer" but after a few seconds it makes the ding/beep noise...

Try the hard drive on another computer to see if it is the external or a laptop interface problem. There are EIDE/SATA to usb adapters that you can connect a hard drive to that the computer will then read as an external hard drive. The problem with external HDDs is the usb interface built into them, these are mounted on controller cards and that is ususally where the failure occurs.
