When turning on our sharp XE-A42S cash register in REG mode it lets us enter in a price, but when we go to push the department key, it beeps and displays misoperation...

Firstly, press subtotal (ST) button. If a price appears, you are in a sale and it is waiting for you to finish (try another method like credit). If it gives an error or beep when you press ST button and the drawer does not open when pressing CA/AT/NS, you probably haven't signed on. Try signing on using a PIN number (see clerk sign on in your manual)

How to REFUND, VOID, ERROR CORRECT on a cash register

Most cash registers are similar in operation when it comes to removing items from a sale (or after one).

ERROR CORRECT, or ERR CORR, or EC will remove the last product you entered during a sale. You simply press it straight after the item button to reverse that item back into stock.

VOID (infinity symbol on Sharp), or VD is used to remove any item from a sale e.g if you have entered four items in a sale, you can remove the first item by pressing VOID, then the item button.

REFUND, or RF, or RFND is your friend. It can be used to reverse any item at any time during, or after a sale. Just press REFUND then the item to reverse it back into stock. Then finish with a payment type e.g CASH if you are refunding cash back to the customer.

XE-A203 SAID 'OVER LIMIT

Each department in the register can be programed with a maximum price. Sharp calls it a HALO, for High Amount Lock-Out, and it prevents those silly mistakes like a cashier once made for me when my burger and shake came out to over $500.00.
If you're entering a reasonable price, but the register complains that it is OVER LIMIT, you need to program a higher HALO for that department. Look for the department programming in the manual.

What does inh.unit pr mean

INH. UNIT PR. means "Inhibit unit price". It means there is no price preprogramed for that department or PLU. Each department can be left open-priced, or preset. Open price is how you usually think of using a cash register: you enter a price, then touch the button. Preset price requires programing a price for a department in advance, but saves time in operation. You touch the Coffee button, for instance, and it automatically rings up the price you've set for a cup of coffee.
If you touch a normal, non-preset department without entering the price first, the register will error with the INH. UNIT PR message.
Touch the CLear key, enter the price, then touch the department.
Many of the Sharp registers, and I think the XE-A402 is one, allow a department to be both open and preset. It can also be programed to be inhibited completely.
The Owners Manual can be downloaded from Sharp here.

ERROR E32 SHARP ER-A220

hi. E34 means the machine has had a limit programmed into it so that a maximum price can be entered. this stops staff accidentally charging say $1000 instead of $100. Try entering a lower price. The limit can be removed if desired. Mark
