i have the same problem. I spoke to the Sears repair center today and they told me that they have been getting LOTS of complaints about the noises from this refrigerator.

I bought the fridge in March 08, and it was fine/quiet for the first 5 months. Then, it started making so much noise, that I can't even hold a conversation in my kitchen.

They explained that it is made for efficiency, not to be quiet. I wish they would have told me that before I spend close to 3k on the thing!

They asked me if I started hearing the "clicking" sound yet. I have not heard that one yet (although, it is hard to hear ANYTHING over the compressor noise that is currently coming from the fridge). They told me to expect the clicking, because they have loads of complaints about that.

They even said that they added a statement about the noise to the owner's manual. They were hoping the statement would alleviate the constant demand for technicians to be sent out for the SAME problem that CAN’T be fixed.

My refrigerator is still under warranty, but they said that it CANNNOT be fixed…so I have no options.

    I am very disappointed. :o(

I just had this humming and click issue and the solution was a new $64 part - "power pack on compressor".

Kenmore Elite Trio Refrigerator not cooling

No, it is not a failed condenser. You need to see if the compressor is running though. When it runs you shaould have a fan in the freezer running, a fan underneath the fridge running, and the compressor should be running. I would be willing to bet that either the compressor is bad, or the start relay on the compressor.

1 year old Kenmore Elite Trio Refridgerator not cooling

There are a lot of things that could be the source of the problem... is there no cooling at all going on in the freezer? Is the back wall of the freezer cold? It could be anything from a fan, to the compressor, to the control board... you need a technician.

I would get on the phone with Sears, and explain the continuing problems you have been having, and they may agree to cover service.

I have a Kenmore Elite Trio for about 3 years now. The first problem I have was - the freezer is fine but the fridge is warm. The cause was the fan on which it stop working after just a year and a half....

If your unit is like most french door w/freezer chests it has to be the fans again. There are two fans at the rear of the freezer chest one supplies circulation to the ice maker and refrigerator and the other supplies ciculation to the freezer section. These fans don't seem to be vary well made but are expensive to replace. I would replace them first. if that is not the problem then you would have to look at the compressor.

You have a problem with the compressor. The compressor is cycling on the overload protector and the compressor may have reached the end of its life. If your refrigerator is still covered by a five year warranty it should be replaced under the warranty.

First check and make sure the condenser is clean and free of dust and dirt. It is located behind a removable panel in back. Shut the refrigerator off and allow the compressor to cool down before trying to restart it. Make sure the fan in back operates when you restart the compressor.

It is the compressor that has failed. The hum is it trying to start and the following click is the overload protector opening. What is the temperature where the refrigerator is located? Allow the compressor to cool down before trying to restart it. If it still does not restart after it has cooled off it is done.
