It might be that the power supply, battery, or backlight. Try pulling the battery out using just the power supply. If you have another power supply try that also.

Sounds like the Operating System is corrupt. I would re-format the hard drive and re-install the OS that should solve the problem. If not then the Hard drive needs to be replaced.
