It sounds like your "code" key may be stuck down. See if it is lower than the other keys. Check for a paper clip or staple under the key. Depending on how the keyboard is made you might be able to spray contact cleaner under the key to get it unstuck. I would bend a paper clip with a small bend at the end (90 degree angle) and use it to gently move the key up and then use my finger to press it back down. Do this several times after spraying contact cleaner under the key. Hope this helps.

the lift of tape has a dull side and a bright side make sure the dull side is toward the paper then press and hold the code key and the = key to reset the typewriter also see page 6 in the owners manual
