At times while printing reports, the printer will continue printing off the page

The options I can set are FONT=ENHANCED; CPI=16; LPI=6; PERFSKIP=ON Other settings I can not change (as far as I can tell) are LM=001; RM=220; TM=002; BM=064; FL=066; PRTFEA=H I have no idea what the second group of settings I gave mean or if they even matter. The formatting on the report may be correct for the first 1/4 page but after that it goes haywire. Previously the PERFSKIP option was set to OFF and a tech said that it should be set to ON. PERFSKIP is now ON but the problem remains. The support contract for this relic has ended and now I have to deal with it and I am out of ideas. Can anyone help?

LM=1 is left margin, RM=220 is right margin, TM=2 is top margin, BM=64 is bottom margin, FL=66 is form length (66 lines is 11 inches when LPI=6 lines per inch) PRTFEA=H means you have the print feature dial set to Host. Change the dial and you get different settings for forms, checks, invoices, reports. A-F.
Perf Skip just skips over the perforation where the pages are perferated. Enhanced means its double strike vs Draft mode.
These settings tell me you are printing compressed print (CPI=16) on wide paper (green bar) cuz RM=220 right margin is 220. For 8.5x11 paper 132 is the correct margin with at 16cpi. or 80 for 10cpi. Clearly you have the wrong paper in here if you print off the page. You must have 8.5 x 11 or 11 x 8.5.
Host allows the computer to change the settings on the fly. That may be why it goes off the page later. (Or it could be a carriage jam that makes it think its at space 1 when it isn't.)
I don't know what you are trying to print so I can't help you. I can tell you that having right margin on 220 is why its printing off the page.
You can change the dial to preset draft 16 and print a menu for those setting or you can change the RM to 132 or 80 by using the command, menu, change and accept keys.
Its been 10 years or so for me but take the printer off line by pushing the on-line button, press command, press menu and it will print all the settings like you have done. It will then print whatever the first item you can change is, press accept and keep accepting until you get to RM=220 then press change. It should print 80 or some number, press change until you get to 132 then press accept. Press accept until you get to the end. Press Normal and on line.
If you change the print size from 16 to 12, or 10 you will need to change the RM to the correct width.
Can't find a manual online for you. I probably thru away 200 of them in 2007 when PCS closed. It would show you what the choices are for each setting. And what the preset and A-F settings are without printing a menu on each one.

You might can buy a manual from Dennis or Rick...

SOURCE: Does not print completely

Sounds like the printer is not set up correctly, you need to check the paper size and positioning to ensure this printer is set properly, check online for a manual as most manuals can be found online

How to set it 20 characters per inch

Where do you want to set the font?

Do you want the font as the default font on the printer or do you want the application to call the font?

Application wise, to get a 20 cpi character font, you need to place the font change into the document.

Remember, even if you set the default font as a 20 cpi, if the application calls for a 10 cpi font like Courier, the printer will change the default font to the 10 cpi font for the life of the current print job unless there are additional font calls within the print job.

The software (Application always overcomes default settings)

Print is compressed on the page. Need to stretch

Compressed print is either a font selection issue or a call for a "SI" (Shift In printer control code)

I suspect the problem can be fixed by going into the printer menu and printing out the printer settings.

Look at the default font and see if it is set to 17,1 or 15.X cpi spacing. If it is then that's the problem.

Change the font to a 10 or 12 cpi spacing (Character per inch).

If the setting is fine, then send me a "Print to File" and I can tell yoi if the software is controling the printer. My address is [email protected]

Also, check the application you are using to generate the data file. Make sure you have the correct "Point" size selected for the font.

Printing settings

Hi,I have a doubt, whether the perview is good and only the print out is bad or both are bad.
Anyway i am giving solutions for both.
The Statement or Report Looks Fine When Previewed, but Looks Bad When Printed If the appearance of the statement or report when printed differs from its appearance when previewed, this may indicate a problem with the printer driver (such as corruption of the driver files). Make sure you are using the most current version of the correct printer driver for the operating system on your computer. For example, a printer driver for an OkiData MicroLine 390 for Windows 98 may not work well at all when printing from Windows XP.
  1. If you need to check for a different printer driver, begin by checking the installation disk or CD-ROM that was provided with your printer.
  2. If you can't find the driver you need on the installation media provided by your printer's manufacturer, check the CD-ROM from which your operating system was installed (i.e., your Windows CD-ROM).
  3. If you can't find the driver you need on your Windows CD-ROM, or if you need to try an updated version of the driver you are currently using, check your printer manufacturer's Web site.my.okidata.com/pp-ML521.nsf/openingdrivermenu?OpenFrameSet
The Statement or Report Looks Bad Whether Previewed or Printed There are many factors that can contribute to undesirable printed output, such as margins, fonts, and custom paper sizes. Use the following steps to troubleshoot this problem.
  • Try using a different font size. See if there is a separate font size available for the same font family (e.g., 15 cpi vs.10 cpi).
  • Try adjusting the page margins and printer offset adjustments in the Page Setup window.
  • Check the printer driver properties to determine if a custom paper size is specified. If not, you may need to specify one. For example, when printing checks that have only one stub, you may need to set up a custom paper size of 8.5 inches wide by 7 inches tall. Conversely, if a custom paper size is incorrectly selected, printed output of reports and statements may be adversely affected.
  • In the Advanced Printing Features window, select the Optimize for Print to File check box and clear all other options and check boxes.
  • Try temporarily renaming the STI.INI file and restarting the Tabs3 or PracticeMaster program. The STI.INI file holds all of the printer settings. If this helps, you may have to recreate the margins, font selections, and other settings used for printing since that information is stored in the STI.INI file. If this does not help, delete the new STI.INI file and rename the original file back to STI.INI.
  • Is the printer configured to emulate another type of printer? Consult the printer's manual and/or the printer manufacturer's Web site to determine if the printer is able to emulate another type of printer such as an IBM Proprinter. If you have tried all of the internal fonts available in the printer's current configuration, it may be beneficial to configure the printer to emulate a different type of printer and then install the corresponding printer driver. Then you can test each of the internal fonts available in the new driver.
  • Once your printing issue has been resolved, check the printed output to ensure that lines are not wrapping or breaking when they should not. Make sure the margins all appear correct.
  • When you are satisfied that the printed output is completely correct, be sure to look at a preview of the same print job, to ensure that the preview is legible. For some printer drivers and fonts, it may be necessary to make a second installation of the printer that uses TrueType fonts. This second installation would then be selected whenever you need to preview reports or statements, and the original installation would be used for the actual printing.

Hope my info solves your problem,
Thanx for using fixya.
