Question about Gateway 507GR PC Desktop
I contacted Gateway support and purchased restore discs for my Gateway. My modem was fried by power surge on phone line. The restore will not complete because of a COM1 error that I receive when installing XP. I can boot in safe mode, but cannot get past the COM1 error for restoring the system. Do I need to replace the modem and driver to get past this, or is the board fried. Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to give.
If it's a separate modem card, replace it.
If it's the built in modem, you'll need replace the mother board.
If you have an extra slot, you might be able to install a cheap add-on modem card which should override the built in. But that's a long shot may not work but worth a try.
