Format error display shows memory card is unstable and need to be format through format option in Camera menu. Format memory card, if that does not fix the issue, try another memory card in camera and check this memory card in another camera just to make sure either camera got problem or memory card is bad.
The 85 and 717 were the first cams able to use a contigous 256Mb Pro stick as far as I know, the 707 and 75 are stuck with the originals or the Switchable ones which defeat the object as if you've gotta pull it to switch "halves" you may as well take 2 normal and cheaper sticks along..

goto the S (shutter priority)or M (manual)setting on the camera and use the black wheel with your thumb to set the shutter speed.
