I have a kitchenaid (modelkudp02frss1) that is not filling with water. The solenoid is not getting a 120v signal at any point during the beginning of the cycle. I cannot find the next step in the troubleshooting process on the internet. Mechanically the float seems to be ok, how do I do an electrical test? What else could be going on?

SOURCE: My KitchenAid dishwasher quit workin no light no

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Please check for the following if your dishwasher is not working--

1. Fuse (blown or tripped).
2. 120 VAC supply wiring connection faulty. Repair or replace wire fasteners at dishwasher junction box.
3. Electronic control board faulty.
4. Motor (inoperative, check resistances).
5. Door switch (open contacts).
6. Door latch not making contact with door switch.
7. Touch pad circuit defective.
8. No indicator lamps illuminate when START or OPTIONS is depressed.

Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Rylee

SOURCE: my kitchenAid dishwasher won't drain well. the

Hello there again I am really sorry we got disconnected
Please try this
The water doesn't drain from the machine
If the water doesn't drain from your dishwasher, check these: Drain line/air gap A clog in the drain line or air gap (if there is one) is the usual reason that a dishwasher won't drain. Often the problem is at the point where the drain line attaches to the garbage disposer or household drain line. If you remove this line, you can clear any debris from the hose or hose connection. Be sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher again. Pump Your dishwasher pump ejects the water. The pump is usually mounted directly to the motor, then attached to the bottom of the dishwasher. You can reach the pump from inside the dishwasher, but first you need to remove the lower rack, the spray arm, and the spray arm support. Look for an impeller--a round plastic fan blade-type of device that spins around. This is the wash impeller, which forces the water through the spray arm. Beneath the wash impeller is the drain impeller, which is similar in size and shape to the wash impeller. The drain impeller pushes the water toward the drain port. These components make up the pump. If any of the pump components are defective, you need to replace them. Drain valve and/or solenoid Many dishwashers use a drain valve with an electric solenoid. When electricity flows to the solenoid, the valve opens and diverts the water to the drain. Sometimes the solenoid, or the diverting lever, sticks and prevents the dishwasher from draining or filling properly. Try to free up the solenoid to lubricate the lever. Otherwise, you may have to replace the solenoid or pump assembly. With these systems, the motor always rotates in one direction. When it's energized, the drain valve diverts the water. Other dishwashers simply reverse the direction of the motor to drain the dishwasher. These units don't have a drain valve. Instead, there's a drain hose connected directly to the pump housing.

SOURCE: My kitchenaid diswasher will fill

Hi,
The buzzing sound would be the motor trying to start and it not being able to turn...
either something is stuck in the pump and holding it from not starting or the motor its self has gone bad and will not start.

Why are ice cubes smaller sized and produced inconsistently?

A lot of refrigerators fill cycle is a timed function, and if your water flow has deminished due to dirty filter or blockage in the water line, then the freeze platem will not fill properly and you will get incomplete ice cubes. Another problem to check into that can cause blockage is the valve seat on the solenoid water valve. It has a strainer that sometimes get clogged and I have actually seen some of the rubber valve seat expand to the point they will not open properly. If it turns out your solenoid water valve needs replacing, you can find parts at Searspartsdirect.com with your model number.
Hope this helps

I have a Miele W1918 washer which has worked perfectly for a decade. Now there is not enough water to fill the tub during the first 'rinse' phase of normal cycles or the 'separate rinse' cycle. The machine...

I have exactly the same problem. I am currently getting around the issue by letting the machine do the washing then at the end of that cycle do a manual rinse cycle.

I'm trying to get my GE GSD1200G00WW to work. When it is put on the wash cycle, I can hear the pump running but the tub does not fill with water. I checked the float and it seems fine. Water valve...

Confirm 120V across the water valve terminals in a couple of minutes into a wash or rinse cycle. (when you turn it on at the beginning of the wash cycle it will drain first, and then will energize the water valve to fill up.)
If there is 120V across the terminals - it may have:
  1. faulty solenoid coil - check for continuity, replace valve if none
  2. clogged filter or nozzle inside the valve. Try cleaning the filter, replace valve if it didn't help

In the bottom of the wash tub there is a float that trips the fill solenoid on and off. More often than not food particles manage to build up on the stem of the float assy and cause the symptom you describe.

Other possibilities are the water valve itself and the opening of the supply line (usually at the faucet shut off) that can be clogged with rust from plumbing in the home.

Lastly if there is an internal failure of the timer it can also cause this.

You can remove the lower kick panel to gain access to the water valve. Remove power long enough to disconnect the 2 water valve solenoid wires and check for voltage when the unit should be filling. If you have voltage re-connect the solenoid.

After checking the solenoid toward the front of the unit on locate the float switch assy. It will be a micro-switch with 2 wires on it. Move the float GENTLY up and down. This switch should click as the float nears the top of its' travel and again just as you begin lowering the float. No click = no fill.

Remember to reinstall the kick panel when work is complete.

Just be careful when dealing with live circuits.

Thanks for using FixYa!

5 y/o kitchen aid dishwasher was wroking great now no water will go in during wash cycle-

Unless someone turned the supply off under the sink, the water fill solenoid is likely defective. It should be located near the area where the fill hose connects to the machine. Make sure to shut the power off by unplugging or turning the appropriate breaker off. Hope this helps.

Dishwasher is not filling.

Hey I dont know the brand at all but I can tell you the first thing that I try on any dishwasher is to check the shut off valve (usually located under the sink) to make sure you are getting water up to this point (maybe it even got shut off) otherwise you could find the inlet valve which im assuming should get 120v during fill. If its getting 120v and you are getting water through the shut off valve then I would replace the inlet valve. If you are not getting power down to the valve then I would check the float switch make sure nothing is stuck underneith it. Other than that you would probably be looking at a control board issue but keep in mind ive never worked on this particular brand just trying to help you out.

Dishwasher not filling

Yes you should have 120v to the valve so the problem is elsewhere. Possibly the control isn't sending the proper voltage but you will need a tech to verify as this board is about $130

It sounds like you have covered all the primary troubleshooting checks. There is only one thing I can think of at this point.
Check the voltage coming to the water valve during the icemaker cycle. The power to the valve is decreased by the resistence of the icemaker heater from 120 volts down to about 108 volts. It is not uncommon to have a valve that will open when you put 120 volts to it, as you do when you switch solenoids, but not open at the decreased voltage when it goes through the icemaker circuit.
If you are getting voltage to the valve when it cycles, and you know for sure the water line to the icemaker is clear, then you will need to replace the valve.
Post back and let me know what you find.
