How do I reverse the rotation on a marathon electric farm duty 1/2 hp motor

You need to determine at which voltage you will run this motor. A motor starter mechanically and electrically interlocked for F & R. with 24v transformer, a SS and FR station. This is expensive but sweet, needs room for this equipment.
The easy budget is by using a drum switch.
The motor nameplate or splice box cover will hand the info on how to connect the motor for either voltage and for CW and CCW rotation.
The magnetic motor starter also will include a wiring diagram.

Most 3 phase motors can reverse rotation simply by swapping any 2 of the 3 phase wires. A typical 3 phase wiring circuit will include a safety ground wire (usually green) and 3 phase wires, often designated A/B/C, or 1/2/3, or color coded to distinguish each. By swapping the terminal connection of any 2 of the three phase wires, for example, 1 & 2 or 2 & 3 or 1 & 3, but leaving the third phase wire unchanged will reverse the rotation of most motors.

if it has 2 caps, yes the cap in the back of the motor (black plastic) is for starting motor, and if it has a metal one on the top, this is the run cap, if the run cap is bad it will trip the thermal after a few moments. but make sure you have the voltage set for your application.

yes all you have to do is rewire the wire the motor there should be a diagram om the inside of the the motor panel... dont forget to unplug it first!

If it has 9 leads and is a 240/480 volt motor the 1and 7 go to line 1. the 2 and 8 leads go to line 2 and the 3 and 9 leads go to line 3. the 4 5 and 6 leads are hooked together with a wire nut. To reverse rotation simply reverse any 2 of the line leads.. Prairie Dog........

Hello,Dom Go to the other end of the motor and look for a plug(like the freeze out plug on an engine block,size of a quarter)pry that cap/plug off and there is a reversing switch there.

the only way to reverse the movement it to rotate the stator.
