First make sure your battery is good. The charging systems on these mowers is not sufficient to charge a completely dead battery. If the battery is good, you have an electrical drain somewhere on the unit. Tracking it down will take a multi-meter and a little time.

battery connection in the yardworks is weak. pins are heating up this will act like its losing power as it heats up and comes away from the battery, only thing can do is push the pins so its a tighter fit, without breaking them.

take the old one to a mower repair shop and that will have all the details
if you don't have the belt go there anyway as they probably will have a catalogue

I have a Yardworks 42in. riding mower. My pto belt only works on 4 and 5 on the deck height control. Is there a way to adjust the belt to get it to engage on the lower settings? Thanks

You didn't mention what happens when you try to go to a lower height.

try this link http://needmanual.com/mtd-yardworks-603753-6-60-3754-4-snow-blower-owners-manual.html . it looks like the spark plug may be hidden under the cowling on the piston head you may have to undo some screws . look for a thick wire follow it to the spark plug.
