How do i set the counter papaer. I want to set the conter so I know how much paper and ink I am using

There is No way to set the copier to tell you the amount of toner & paper counter. Unless you make a copy of the same exact copy ever time you press the start button. The toner yield is figured out by 5% coverage of toner on a Letter size paper

MFC 8440 drum changed but still states to change drum soon. Faxes are only coming in after turning off/on machine. It indicates printing but nothing happens.

There were instructions with the new drum cartridge that explained how to reset the drum counter. If you still have the box and paperwork, then go through that step-by-step and reset the counter. The machine still thinks that it has the old drum. After a certain amount of copies or prints, the machine will save itself by turning off the printer or copy functions.

E245 for ir1630

E-245 is for the defective counter pcb. the board is a small one on the main controller that keeps track of the amount of copies the machine has made. this code is normaly seen when someone changes the main board and forgets to switch the counter pcb. it is possible that there is a loose screw on the board.

How to read the meter on Cannon Copier

Yes, that is the correct counter of the copier. If you are doubting it, you can look at the bottom right of that display and confirm that the serial number is the same as on the back cover of the copier and also, it well tell you the model of the copier aswell. It is kind of hard to fake the meter or change it to a lower amount. To do it you need to change 3 PCB's from another copier & it is more work to bother with.
