Are you getting a lot of smoke? If so the oil is getting past the rings and burning.

SOURCE: CRAFTMAN RIDING MOWERE DY

I would say so. Recharge the battery and load test it. It probably will say to re place it.
You can have a auto repair center load test it

I have a craftman riding mower model 917-273381, It will run & cutt grass good for about 4 to 5 min & then stop. I`ve replaced carb kit & check the kill switch. It still doing the same thing.

How long does it have to sit before it starts again? Does it need to be jumped? If battery is old or not recharging you can loose power. I had a regulator go bad and mine would keep dying. I would charge the battery and mow for awhile then would die again. Have you checked battery and regulator?

The battery in my JD lawn tractor was dead; it started and mowed several times with a jump start but eventually only the tractor would run while the mower would not engage. With a new battery installed,...

I suspect that the alternator/generator has gone bad, preventing the battery from chargine, or generating enough voltage to keep the electric pto on your mower engaged.

I think that it is located on the engine beneath the flywheel.

I hope this helps you.

No power

I think you should check the charging system. You said you replaced the battery a few weeks ago. Even with the charging system not working, the battery might have enough power for a dozen or more start-ups; but using the lights may have drained what power was left. Get or borrow a battery charger and charge your battery. If mower then seems to be working fine, measure the voltage across the battery when the mower engine is running at normal speed (not idling). It should be 13.5 volts or more if the charging system is working. 12 volts or less means it's probably not working. Either test or replace the regulator/rectifier. Please rate me if you think this helped, thanks!

WILL NOT START craftman LT1000 YR.2000

most likely the blades are still in the on position, but you have a seat switch, parking brake switch, and the blade switch, also the mow in reverse key switch. if mower dies once you let out the clutch in reverse with blades on and key wrong.

1 year old craftsman model 917-376742 battery not taking a charge

sounds like it didnt take a charge; make sure all electrical connections are good and that it is getting power to the built-in charger. is there a indicator showing that its charging? are all the wires on the mower connected? you may need to get a new battery
