My phone is a vtech cs6649-2. and I'm haveing problems getting it to work. When some one calls the phone only lets you talk for 10 seconds and cuts out. Then when you hang up the phone it rings back in to whom ever called and you may get 2 seconds or a complete conversation. What am I missing?

SOURCE: Not Registered Problem

This worked for the 7100, hopefully it works for other models:

When the handset says "not registered", it should still have a "menu" option. Select that, then the only choice is "register", select Ok. Now it says "searching for base", press and *hold down* the "locate handset" button on the base until the handset beeps and wakes up. Docs say this could take up to 30 seconds (it was about 17 for mine).

I have an old Vtech 5.8 three(3) handset model the instruction manual got lost. When the phone rings, if it's for my wife I have to take the hand- set to her in order for her to get the call. If she is...

Yes, you can transfer a call from one handset to another. Since you didn't specify the model of your VTech phone, I can't tell you exactly how to do that. I can direct you to enter the model into the search box here to download a copy of the manual.

Our line one cuts out even when we're talking on it & we can just barely hear the person on the line but they can hear us clearly. We have unplugged the phone's power cord & plugged it back in...

I have the same sort of problem...kinda..lol. My Vtech sorta 'cuts out' when there is noise at my hosue. The person I'm talking to can still hear me but I can't hear them. If my son starts crying or there's any other loudish type noises on my end, it's like the phone is trying to cutout my background noise, but all it's cutting out is the person talking to me. It's not that the noises in my house are loud and I jsut can't hear the person I"m talking to, b/c if i cover the mouth peice then no matter how loud the sound in my house is i can still hear the person i'm talking to but I HAVE to keep the mouth peice covered. It's really annoying!

If I enter the phone number and then press "talk", the numbers dial extremely quickly, a dial tone comes on, and I have to enter the numbers again. How do I fix this? It is a Vtech 6.0 DECT.

Usually there are two modes provided to all fixed line telephones. Tone mode and pulse mode. Pulse mode will dial the call slowly and Tone mode will dial calls quickly. Your phone is in Tone mode i guess. You need not dial the numbers again. Wait for few seconds and the call will get accomplished!

Speaker on phones cut out both when I talk and

open the phone, clean the surface of the speaker, read the speaker with a meter, if it is working, put it back on and couple the phone but if it does not work replace the speaker with working speaker.

Not Registered Problem

I had the same problem and I JUST fixed it! First, unplug the power to the main base (answering machine) for 20 seconds. Plus it back in. Put the phone that says "not registered" in the main answering machine. It will say "press the find handset for 4 seconds". Do that. It will run thru a series of stuff and will find the handset. It works! Rich (jambones.com)
