Give me examples of a compound sentence.

1. Ronnie asked for examples of compound sentences, and I provided some.

2. A simple sentence is just that, while a compound sentence is two or more independent clauses strung together.

Examples of simple sentence

The following are simple sentences:
"The dog eats its food."
"The girl washes her clothes."
"The man hates exercise."
The simple sentence is typically has a subject (the dog / the girl / the man), followed by a verb (eats / washes / hates), followed by an object (food / clothes / exercise).
You could also have simple sentences consisting of only a subject and a verb, for example:
"The man cries."
"The bird flies."
"The girl sings."

A complex sentence would be:
"The girl washes her clothes, but then throws it away."
"The man cries, because he hurt his toe."
"The dog eats its food and then plays on the lawn."
The complex sentence is typically made up of simple sentences that are joined together by conjunctions. Conjunctions are words like "and", "but", "because", "although", etc.

So, the complex sentences above, actually looks like this when you look at them closely:
"The girl washes her clothes" + "The girl throws her clothes away." - joined by "but".
"The man cries" + "The man hurt his toe." - joined by "because".
"The dog eats its food" + The dog plays on the lawn." - joined by "and".
Complex sentences can be very long, consisting of many simple sentences that are all joined by conjunctions.

I can NOT stop the "verbiage" from appearing and

gfarley806,

Your description sounds like your unit is in the "DEMO" mode. The procedure to access the demo mode and turn it on or off is in the operaitons manual. If you do not have one you can download one for free at http://www.retrevo.com/support/Toshiba-42H81-TVs-manual/id/311bh747/t/2/ . If you do not care about getting the maual and just want the verbiage to end here is the procedure:

To start the demo mode:

Press and hold the MENU button on the front of the set for 4 seconds.

To stop the demo mode:

Press RECALL, EXIT or Power

Text will not wrap

Under the format of the cell, wrap text is checked. I believe there is a size limitation of characters to a cell. I believe its 255 characters. You could try using an adjacent cell an use a merge cell format as well as the wrap text by highlight both cells.
