What you need is something called a volt-ohm meter.
Obtain one and use it to test your switch and wiring.

SOURCE: Porter cable pancake unit blows air after shut off.

tap on the check valve with a metal object. Its sticking open. The check valve is the brass fitting on top of the tank. When the valve sticks open it emits air from the area of the engine. If that doesn't work (which I would be surprised it doesn't), you'll need to purchase a new check valve. Good Luck!

SOURCE: I have a porter cable 4.5 gallon 150psi air

That is what the relief valve is set at, you need to
either increase the pressure on the relief valve or
reduce the pressure on the pressure cutout switch. Stephen

SOURCE: Air Leak From Pump Head on Porter Cable C2001 Pancake Compressor

The real question is where exactly is the leak coming from. Compressors have a pressure release valve designed to let the pressure off of the compressor motor so it can start when there is pressure in the tank. This valve is often the culprit and fairly easy to replace. You can order it direct from porter-cable online. Just in case double check the drain petcock sometimes these get worn and won't close completely and can easily be over looked when trouble shooting.

SOURCE: my porter cable pancake PSI

The compressor has a max psi setting of 150.If the pressure is not reaching this or is only stabilizing at a low pressure you have an air leak around a gasket somewhere. If it is reaching 150psi and not shutting off your pressure switch is bad.Replace it.Check your owner's manual for a part number or go to www.factoryauthorizedoutlet.com to find the part.

My pancake compressor tries to start for a second, then quits before building pressure. Two year old barely used Porter Cable C2002 Psi 6 Gallon

You can try a new capacitor, or test your existing one.
Plug its power cord directly to an outlet, no extensions, power lost in inapropiate power cords is also a probable cause.
Does the motor turn by hand or is it sticking?
One thing is an electric problem, another would be mechanical.

Porter cable pancake air compressor the compressor builds pressure and the regulator works turning it on and off but. when I attach the hose for the nail gun. there is no pressure going to the hose

the regulator does not turn comp ff and on the pressure switch does. If you adjust regulator to 100 psi and the is no air replace regulator or rebuild it, parts are online at several stores you pick on.

Porter cable pancake compressor will not shut off replaced manifold, still the same.

I would look at the pressure switch which shuts the electric off when the air pressure reaches its limit also check all wires going to and from this switch. Best checked with a multi-meter.

My Porter Cable pancake outlet regulator doesn't seem to work.

If your quick coupler is not jammed up, (remove & test) and assuming you are pulling the regulator knob out to adjust the pressure and it is not stripped, you will need a new manifold kit.
There are about 6 versions of this unit so you will need model and type to get the correct part. There are no individual regulator parts available for this unit.

Porter Cable pancake rated at 150 PSI stops at 135 PSI. It has done this since it was new.

If it's pumping up to 135 psi, shutting off and then restarts at the same pressure point since it was new, the pressure switch may have been set low at the factory. I don't know which model you have but most pressure switches have directions inside their cover as to how to adjust the cut-out and cut-in pressures. Be careful doing this, overpressuring the tank is dangerous. There is an adjustment screw or bolt that changes the pressure on the switch spring. Some pressure switches have two screws, one for cut-in and one for cut-out pressure. A few have one that adjust both pressures. If you do adjust the cut-in/cut-out levels, do it slowly and cycle the motor a couple times between each adjustment to see where it turns off and on. If the compressor is doing what you want it to, only pumping to 135 psi, it will live longer than if you adjust it up to 150 psi. Those last 15 psi of air are hard to get and will mean the motor will be running longer and more heat will be building up in the head.

I have a Porter Cable pancake air compressor CFFN 250N manufactured in 2004 that has an air leak. Pressure can only get to 80 PSI. Checked all the connections and found no leaks. Finally took the cover...

There is a check valve where the line goes into the tank. The purpose of this valve is to keep air from coming out of the input line. This valve is likely the culprit and it is leaking out of the unloader. The unloader is actuated by the electrical switch when the compressor shuts off, and it relieves the pressure on the line so that the pump is not under load when it tries to start.
