TV tuning on then off right away.

I have a Sony KP-46S17 that you hear it clicking on but then shuts right off. The LED in the front blinks and that is all it does. If Someone can help it would be greatly aperciated thanks. The model number i get off the back i can't find it anywhere. They say invalid model number so I don't know why when its on the back of the unit.

blinking 8 times - high voltage fault?? D-Board issue? Easy DIY fix? I'm mechanically illiterate.

KP-46WT500 - TV will turn on, turn reddish, then turn off and blinks 8 times.

I have the exact same televison/problem. I turn it on, it begins to warm up and then shuts off. blinks 10 times, stops and repeats sequence. Hit power again, repeats process, only this time blinks 5 times and then stops and repeats. Hit power 3rd time and it turns on and is fine. If it is on and I shut it off and turn it right back on, it is fine. The problem only happens when it has been off for 1/2 hour or more. PLEASE HELP as I love/need my televison and can not afford a new one right now. Sony customer service is ****. I have always been a Sony fan, but after this tv of only 4 years does this out of the blue and customer service is ****, i will not buy Sony products again!

How many times does it blink?

  • Anonymous Jan 14, 2008

Check the two 0.47 Ohms safety resistors (R8895 and R8896) in
the +135V line on the D-board are open and transistor Q8804 is
    shortened between collector and emitter.

    In that case, flyback
transformer T8800 will be the root cause and in 95% of the cases only
replacement of these four components will fix the problem.

Sony rear projection screen is red then tv shuts off

Can be 1 of 2 things. 1st the red tube just needs the voltage to it turned down. In the front of TV (you have to remove the lower front half of TV to access it) is a plastic square with 6 knobs. The from left to right top knobs control focus for blue, green red. The bottom knobs control voltage to each tube in same order (so lower right knob for red) turn SLOWLY to left to reduce voltage until excessive red and lines go away. If you over turn left or right set will turn off. If that does not fix it or if lines reappear then option 2 is that red picture tube is failing outright and needs replacement.

Sony Projection Tv Model KP-51HW40

With both of error codes flashing, the problem is trying to figure out wich one to focus on. The flashing 6 code is an indication of HV failure which would then cause a vertical failure(4 blink code). There are so many things that would cause this problem. I can narrow it down to the "D" board to fix your problem. If I were there to troubleshoot it, I could narrow it down further I.E. flyback, HV distribution block. I suggest getting a tech diagnose the exact problem. I wish I could narrow it down better for you. Please take time to rate this solution and if I can be of further assistance, let me know

Clicking on Blue screen appears then shuts off

The problem sounds to be in the power supply board. May also be a horizontal drive problem. Sorry I can't be of more help, but there are may voltage problems ( shorts, open capacitors, bad chip etc ) that couls cause this problem. The reason the set turns blue when it first comes on is that it doesn't have time ( or can't find a signal and the screen default to blue. Wished I could help more.

When the set turns off, does the red timer LED blink on the front of the set? If so, how many times does it blink? The number of blinks corresponds to the reason the set shut down.
