"Camera not connected." -- Serial connection

The "Camera not connected" error message indicates a communications problem in the serial port connection between the camera and the computer. Simply put, the computer cannot find the camera it is being asked to connect with. Whenever an external device (digital camera, scanner, Palm Pilot, etc.) is connected to a computer through its serial port, a communications error is possible. There is usually no single "most likely" reason for the conflict -- it could be a hardware issue as easily as it could be a software issue.

A 9-pin serial connection must be available on your computer to connect a PhotoMAX Fun! Flash 640 digital camera. This camera model does not have a USB driver, so a USB-to-serial adapter will not function properly.

Windows NT4 and Windows 2000

Windows 2000 A new camera TWAIN driver (version 0.1) compatible with Windows 2000 is now available for download. The new TWAIN driver will allow photo transfer using most image viewing or editing programs that are TWAIN compatible. NOTE: In order for the version 0.1 driver to work correctly, the PhotoMAX software must also be compatible with Windows 2000. The PhotoMAX SE software originally included with the Fun! Flash 640 is not compatible with Windows 2000. If you use your camera and computer with the original PhotoMAX SE software, contact the Polaroid Parts Department for more information about purchasing a PhotoMAX software upgrade. Windows NT4 No TWAIN driver is available for use with Windows NT4.

Serial port?

There are two basic ways to work around this situation: * Use a PS/2 mouse instead of a serial mouse. Using a PS/2 mouse will free up your serial port so that you can connect the camera to the computer. Check the computer's documentation to see if this type of mouse is available for your system. * Enable MouseKeys on your computer. MouseKeys allows you to use the numeric keypad to move the mouse pointer and to click, double-click and drag. After enabling MouseKeys, you can disconnect the serial mouse and connect the camera to the computer. Click Here to see an animated demonstration, or follow the instructions below. To enable MouseKeys: 1. From the Windows toolbar, select Start > Settings > Control Panels. 2. Double-click the Accessibility Options icon. 3. Select the Mouse tab. 4. Select Use MouseKeys and change settings, if desired. 5. Click OK.
