Some machines have the video built into the motherboard.
Best way to tell is look at the Video port on the back of the machine.
(Where the monitor cable plugs in)
If the Video connection point is in within a card slot it is easy to spot what position and where. If the Video connection port is in line with the motherboard. It is built into said motherboard. And yes if you have an available slot open you could upgrade the video should it be built into the motherboard.
Here is a link for slot types

Hope this helps.

Your PC may either have a video card built into the motherboard or it may be a separate graphics card. If t is built into the motherboard then the connector for the monitor lead will be located near to the edge of the case, surrounded by other connectors. If you have a separate graphics card then the connection for the monitor lead will be further away from all the other connectors. A built-in graphics card cannot be removed but a separate card be removed or replaced.
On video card should be cooler (fan), and behind hdmi port and VGA

There are 2 most commonly used PC video ports.
"Blue 15 pin VGA port and the White DVI port"
HDMI - Could also be a newer used video port.
Check your monitor connection to compare.

Hi,
Can you specify the machine type: model, vendor...
Many machines do not have a video card, but only a video chip on the motherboard. If you have a video card, it will be plugged into a card slot on the motherboard. To see what a video card looks like, see...

Typically, you can find the resolution setting by right-clicking on the desktop-->Properties. Look under the "Settings" tab. (Located in the upper right-hand corner of the "Properties" dialog box.)
A "Screen Resolution" slider bar is located in the middle of the dialog box towards the left.
This is just typical settings but the process may differ a little if your video card has its own set of settings to configure.
