Reset the player by holding the off-switch and the volume-+ (plus) switch., and as soon as the player shuts off, press and hold the volume- - (minus) switch. Let the Philips device manager do a repair.
If this doesn't solve your problem, do the above procedure again. The computer will see the gogear as a removable hard-drive now, so go to my computer and format it. Disconnect the player, after restarting it go to settings and choose "restore to factory defaults", this will restore the file structure on the drive.

My philips gogear vibe wont turn on

Reset your GoGear with something sharp like the tip of a pen or the end of a paper clip,

if you're device isn't working properly or there's a frozen display.

Insert the sharp object into the "Reset" hole (located at the bottom of the player), and hold it there until the device turns off.

If resetting the device does nothing to restore the display, access the "Philips Device Manager" through your computer to recover the GoGear.

Click "Start" on your computer, then "Programs," "Philips Digital Audio Player," "Aria Device Manager," and then "Philips Device Manager."

This will launch the "Philips Device Manager." Make sure the GoGear is turned off completely. Connect your GoGear to your computer while holding down the "Volume Up" button.

Continue to hold the "Volume Up" button on your GoGear, until the "Philips Device Manager" recognizes the device and enters recovery mode.

Click the "Repair" button when it appears on your computer, then folow the steps to fully recover the GoGear.

Properly disconnect your GoGear from your computer and restart the device.

Recharge your device if your GoGear dies suddenly while playing.

Connect the GoGear to your computer via the supplied USB cord.

Plug one end of the USB cord into a functional, open USB port on your computer. Plug the free, smaller end of the USB cord firmly into the small USB jack on your GoGear and turn your computer on.

This will begin the charging process of your GoGear.

If recharging doesn't work, the battery may need to be replaced.

Check that your GoGear isn't in standby mode. Hold the "Power" button for two seconds to turn it back on.

hope this helps

How do i turn off

Slide and hold the button on the bottom of the unit for more than 2 seconds until the unit turns off. You can then slide the switch to the left or right, depending on how you hold the GoGear, to lock the unit and prevent it from accidentally turning on.

My philips mp3 turns on to the philips screen, but then turns right back off. nothing seems to work such as: restart button, usb, etc.

Hi Are you sure the gogear is fully charged, your problem is symptomatic of a failing or uncharged internal battery.

Locked

Switch the lock symbol on the bottom of the player to unlock the little button from left to right. That should do the trick.

Will not play songs

There could be several things going on:
1)Your music service subscription could have been cancelled

2)The device itself is not faulty. This is Microsoft's fault, not Philips'. Some of the songs may have Digital Rights Management (DRM) encoding that the SA178 will not support. You can right click on the trouble music file, select "Properties," and select the License or Digital Right tab - look for the msg: This file is not copyright protected. Find out if the songs that CAN'T be transferred have this message. If so, then click on acquire digital rights (or some variant of that phrase). If the files tha CAN'T be transferred DO have Digital rights protection, then you must save the files in a different format that is stripped of DRM encryption.

Otherwise:
Make sure you back up all songs on the GoGear before attempting this solution.

1) Back up all files on the GoGear
2) Open up Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips)
3) Click on the Repair Tab, and look for a msg that says connect the player while holding the volume + button
4) Disconnect the GoGear from the computer and turn the GoGear off - hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you reconnect the GoGear to the computer; after holding the volume + button for up to 20 or 30 seconds, a window will open up saying that your device is being repaired (now you can let go of the volume + button); after the repair is successfully complete, your GoGear will be good as new

Now you can do the firmware upgrade that will prevent this problem from occuring in the future. Open up Philips Device Manager and click the Update tab. This problem was caused because most GoGear's were designed for Windows XP with Media Player 10 (which is no longer the latest standard).
