How to play .dss voice files in express scribe?

    Here is a blog post which explains in great detail how you can get a .ds2 file converted to be able to play it in Express Scribe. The options listed go through many scenarios and even includes reference on how to play .ds2 files if you have older Olympus transcription kits. Essentially, .ds2 can not be played in Express Scribe but here are a few options to help get around the problem:

I need to download a prograam for my laptop (drivers) to access mij Olympus digital voice recorder VN 1000 PC. Where can I get the driver and prograam to manage my recordings?
I have had good luck with Express Scribe, a free software package. Note that Olympus DSS format is proprietary and not all settings will work. The software from Olympus will of course work, but can be pricey. Express Scribe supports SP on most recorders. www.nch.com.au/scribe/index.html This company also has other products for playback and conversion to other formats, which maybe helpful to you.

Olympus DSS Player ver 7 installation, use and file backup proble
simple convert them all to .wav or mp3 then can play anywhere.. thats what i do... now can some one help me.. my dss 2 doesn't work right in the very nnoying new win 7 computer.. keep getting a dll error and olympus has the drivers all archived and not updated for win 7

which is free whereby you dont need to have pedals or you can buy Olympus Module 5 around £120 either one you can convert digital files.

I am trying to transfer files from my Hotmail account to Olympus
If they are files that someone has emailed to you, they need to first be saved in your C drive somewhere and then you can import them to the DSS software to be able to play them. They cannot be imported directly as an email attachment.

Sound blaster conflict
Wow I have an audigy card and a Olympus and never had that problem before.

Goto soundblaster.com and make sure the audigy drivers are updated. There is an update to the olympus software available on their website as well.

If the volume is up too high on your recorder when it is playing back, it may shut the speakers down as a safety precaution especially if your sound card has a limiter to it.

Foot switch will not respond.
The answer is all in the serial number you use to install the DSS player!

Look carefully and you will see the recorder disk has in my case an [E] printed above the install serial number and the transcription pedal has [T]

Install the same disk with the E the driver is there, the control in Control Panel is there, but the foot switch does not work with the software. Put in the serial number with the [T] and foot switch works first time!

If you uninstall the play and then reinstall with the [T] serial number you do not need to reboot or even unplug the foot switch from the USB.
