Here is a blog post which explains in great detail how you can get a .ds2 file converted to be able to play it in Express Scribe. The options listed go through many scenarios and even includes reference on how to play .ds2 files if you have older Olympus transcription kits. Essentially, .ds2 can not be played in Express Scribe but here are a few options to help get around the problem:

Could it be that the files are just being regularly accessed by one of the server admin tools and the DSS Player application interprets an open file as 'being transcribed'
