On these models, the oven must be pulled from the wall mount, then the outer cover must be removed. This is apparently to limit the manufacturer's liability. Removing the microwave from the wall is really a two-person job, since it is heavy and awkward. You don't want it to fall or slip, and the edges can be sharp. It helps a lot if you saved the original installation instructions. Once the oven is out of the wall, you can then access the lamp socket. These bulbs are special halogen types that must not be touched by bare hands, since skin oils will shorten their life. SOURCE: Replacement light bulb for GE spacemaker microwave

That model number doesn't look quite right, but nevertheless:

If there's no obvious removable cover over the bulb (and the owner's manual doesn't address it) some disassembly may be required.

Always unplug a microwave before removing or installing any bulbs.

If it's an over the range type, remove the vent grille across the top and see if bulbs can be accessed there. There may be a panel on the bottom covering the light(s), instead.

If not, chances are you'll have to remove it from the wall, then remove the outer cover. If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

Once it's out of the wall, the outer cover (wrapper) will need to be removed, just as you'll need to do on a counter top model.

On a counter top model, be sure it's unplugged, but otherwise ignore the instructions above this paragraph.

The screws you need to remove should be pretty obvious, but a special driver (such as a T20H Torx type or GTXH20-100) may be needed.

Be sure to put all the screws back in the right holes, since some may be special grounding screws.

Bulbs can be had in most grocery stores, hardware stores, home improvement centers, and big box or department stores.

Many models use halogen lamps. You must not touch the new one with your bare skin, as the oils will shorten the bulb life.

It is located on the air duct assembly where the door switches are mounted.

You can see an exploded view diagram here.

You'll need to remove the outer cover (wrapper) to get to the bulb assembly.

Always unplug a microwave before removing or installing any bulbs.

How to change the light bulb

What kind of microwave oven is this? A counter-top model or an over-the-range microwave? Do you have a brand and model number? And which light bulb do you want to replace - the cavity light bulb, or the bottom light(s) of an OTR microwave?

Changing interior light bulb on GE jes1289sk

I have had this trouble before but with a different model. There may be a plastic screen inside the microwave that will just pop off exposing the bulb. Now all you will need to do is to find out what type of bulb you will need to change the other bulb. I hope this made things easier on you.

GE microwave (jvm1740dm1bb) - Control panel how much for this part

GE part number WB07X11040. Several sources came up after a search for that number. Here's one site I do business with fairly often that has it listed. Here's another source with a lower price, but I don't have experience with them.

I plug in my microwave and it works for a few minutes then a error message reads key pad shorted the model number is jvm1740dm1bb

That is the worst microwave that you can buy. GE give you 1 year warranty, after that they send you a maintanence plan $50/month. They change mine 3 TIMES during the warranty period, after that works for 6 months and brake again. Always the problem was the KeyPad. The guy that they sent never told me a real reason for that, so I think is manufacturing defect. I put my GE JVM1740DM1BB to the trash.DO NOT BUY GE AGAIN

TO BIGDEEL

Do you mean your internal cooling fan or the hood / vent / exhaust fan?

If it's ther internal cooling fan, do not use the microwave or the magnetron will overheat and be damaged or destroyed.
