Document jammed
It could be a false positive for the paper jam. Check and make sure all of your sencer flags in the paper path are working properly.

Check again, this time with a torch and tweezers! It sounds like a very tiny jam so very small it may have been missed. Open up cover and check inside everywhere. Good luck.

Brother 950/980: On copy or transmit they may produce black pages. Prone to bad scanner (CCD). Brother may provide a replacement CCD at no charge to the original owner. Sometimes leaving the unit unplugged for a few hours will solve the problem temporarily.
Brother HL600 series laser printer toner will work in the laser fax & multifunction machines (part number TN100HL = TN100PPF). Drum units may be interchangeable as well (?).
Brother 1350/1550/1950: Problem: Record paper jams. Solution: Replace upper shoot. P/N UF6058001. Although there seems to be nothing causing the jam, the upper shoot gets stress marks on the ends. Replace even though it is not broken.
Thermal Transfer Machines: Only one side of the page is printing. Caused by the printhead latch being cracked. The latch is blue in color there is one on each side of the printhead, replace both latches

if the message refers to the scanner, open the cover of the feeding unit on top of the printer and clean it with compressed air. Most probably an insect got stuck somewhere

Seems you have a dusty roller in the feed mechanism. try cleaning off the roller with some windex (or equivalent) on a towel.

Hey I figured it out. On the top where you insert paper into the automatic document feeder you will notice a small switch. When paper is set in the tray the switch is pressed down. I noticed on mine that the switch had become stuck down. I just used a small push-pin and popped it up. Error message went away.
