How can I print using black ink only on the epson stylus photo rx425 when colour ink is empty

I want to be able to print black ink only as the colour cartridges are empty. is it possible to overide the error messages so i can print my document?

Hi Manavoc,

I will explain you the cause for it.

It prints in yellow first and then override with black for better quality. This is the reason your color ink gets empty.

I have a problem about my printer here. it doesnt print black color even if i replaced it with new cartridge...anyone have solution about this pls help....joy

I did try the battery removal (lower left-Inside on motherboard extention) and it didn't work. Then did a soft reset and power down with the batery removed. powered back up (Still no battery) Powered down, reinstalled the battery, powered up and was
able to print. No expired message at all!

SOURCE: Windows Ink Cartridge Empty false error message.

slowly off and on the printer for five times without cartridge, printer saves data of cart of last 5 only so next time it reads full ink..

How do I print using just the black in an RX700 or do I need to have all ink cartridges full.. only one is out.
Many printers especially Photo ones also use colour even when printing Black.

The reason Photo printers are more inclined to do this is because of B&W Photo's which are in fact greyscale.

So yes you need to replace the empty ink cart.

Yup that's Epson for you. I had the same. bought the black one but to get it to work you must have ALL the ink cartridges full. no way around it.

Cant change ink cartridge on my Epson C91
cannot change ink. Turn on, and just unplug power when cartridge is moving. cartridge will stop not in parking position. Just move head by hand to replacement position.

ESPON Stylus Photo R200 Ink Status Problem
Hi,

The epson like many other brands actually uses a small amount of the coloured ink in order to give the black print a more polished look.

You must use your printers properties page to set printing mode to Greyscale if you don't want it to use the colours.

To do this go into your control panel, open the printers icon, and select your printer, right-click on it and select Properties from the grey menu.

You will have to look through the pages and find the setting or check box for Grayscale. When you find it, select it, then click ok at the bottom of the page. This will stop the printer from using coloured inks to tone the black print.

Epson sx200 One of the colour inks is empty and no print in black
Hi, this is not a solution because I don't think there is one apart from buying new inks. Epson and all other inkjet printers do this to prevent the coloured print head nozzles from getting blocked. If they are not used for a long time the ink dries up and blocks the nozzles. Epson recommends printing at least once a month with all colours to prevent this. Printing in black only option will only work if the colored inks are OK. Whenever the printer is turned on it performs a head clean, this is why the coloured inks get used over time even though they are not used for printing.

Greyscale Printing
Go into Printers, Properties, Printing Preferences, then Black Ink Only. If you make that the default, it will automatically print black ink with you click on the printer in the toolbar. If you want to print one document in color, click on File, Print, Properties, and set it for color for that one job only. The default of Black Ink should stay the same.

Printer= Epson stylus Photo R200=will not print in black
The printer is designed so that you have to have ink in all the ink cartridges. They sell more ink this way. I have the same printer and investigated this a few years ago. there is no work around. Peter
