Hi Frank, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty resetting your DC18's brush bar. The video attached shows the correct way to do this - after removing any obstructions from the cleaner head and brush bar, the reset button should reset the machine. Please note, it's important to recline your machine into the normal vacuuming position before testing it - the brush bar will never rotate when the machine is standing upright.

It's also worth ensuring the brush control button is set correctly - with the vacuum turned on and reclined into the vacuuming position, try pressing this button twice.

No reset button for brushes

Hi there,

To locate the reset button on your DC24, please check the left-hand side of the cleaner head when the machine is facing you. It's set within a red recess - the video below may help.

If you're sure there is no reset button on the cleaner head, you may have a different Dyson upright. Please visit www.dyson.com and click 'Support' to identify your machine from the list. Our online Support guides should then be useful in resolving your issue.

Alternatively, we'll be happy to confirm which machine you own, and run you through the correct reset process, if you give our Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US). Please have the machine to hand when you call.

Best wishes,

Jack

Brand new machine red button doesn't depress- it feels springy but doesn't click therefore brush not working

Hi Moya,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC24. If the brushbar won't rotate, it may simply need resetting. Please follow the steps shown in the video below to reset it - make sure you have the cleaner reclined into the vacuuming position before testing it, as the brushbar will never run when the cleaner is standing upright.

However, if this doesn't restart the brushbar, it's best if you get in touch with us directly so we can help. You can call us free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards,

I have a emerson insinkerator that has nothing working checked breaker and reset button??no power??

First check that you have voltage at the outlet and that the switch is working. There is a reset button on the bottom of the unit - have you tried to reset that? If not, try it! If that doesn't do it, unplug your unit and use an allen wrench to rotate the motor (CW), if it won't turn then you either have something like a bone or spoon wedged in it or the motor is bad. If the motot is bad it is cheaper to replace than to repair.

The brushes won't spin. I put new brushes on and it still doesn't spin.

Usually when the brushes won't turn it is due to a bad turbine. Insert a screwdriver into the square hole that the pin on the brush fits into, and see if it turns. If it is seized up, the turbine assembly will need to be replaced.

Brush bar is not turning when I turn on my dison vacum

Hi There,

The Dyson DC15 All floors is actually a 2 motor upright, meaning the suction motor is separate from the motor that rotates the brushes. The first thing you should check is the reset switch on the brushes. Behind the brushes there is a little red pole, push this down to reset the brushes, and see if this fixes the problem.

If not, then you may have a bad on/off switch for the roller brushes. Try pushing the switch next to the main on/off switch that controls the brushes up and down, up and down, can you hear the brushes attempt to come on at all? If you could hear them come on even somewhat, this means that your brush on/off switch is bad and needs to be replaced.

If nothing happens when you push this switch, it still may be bad and not getting any power at all to it.

Does the machine make any sound at all when you try to turn the brush switch on and off?

Please try pushing the reset switch, then testing the on/off switch first. If neither one of these solutions works, please just use the comment field on the repair and let me know, and I can then walk you through some more advanced diagnosing of your machine.

Thanks,

Chris Jones

I have cleaned & cleaned this thing! It runs for about 2 mins & stops, says "Clean Brushes"! and now it's very noticeable it's not picking up well... but is picking up a bit. I take the dust bin...

Ok, this is a "Brush Height Adjustment" issue. It will probably work great on a hard surface but on carpet the brushes bog. If you've taken the unit apart already...Sorry....do it again. When you do, you'll see a String which allows the brushes to "Float" on different surface heights. Loosen the screw a little and pull a bit more string through. Re Tighten the screw and put it together enough for a test run. Now reset the roomba. To reset the Roomba, power the Roomba on, and press the Spot, and Dock buttons together for at least 8 seconds. Until it plays a tune. The clock, and any schedule is erased at this time. Try running the Roomba with the dust bin removed to see the brushes spin easier.

Second method, is taking off the bottom cover, and removing the battery. While it's removed, and not plugged into the charger, press the clean button for at least 20 seconds. This will erase the memory. Replace battery, and cover. Run the Roomba to see if the brushes start to spin. You can also remove the brush housing by removing the 4 screws and reseating it, to see if it was a bad connection, since you have the bottom cover off.

Kenmore direct drive will no longer self-propell

There may also be a reset button. If the brushes get stuck the unit can shut off power to the brushes to keep a total melt down from occurring. The reset button should return power in these types of vacuums.
