I will be watching TV, and maybe after 20 minutes the audio is still working but the picture is gone. The screen goes black. I have to change the channel for the picture to return.
You could be in a fringe area. your reception of signal has a lot of noise in it.... the good news is that decoder can verify enough audio to be able to hear most of it but picture cannot be decoded and corrected fast enough... for this problem the best solution is to remove the politicians that call this better than seeing a slightly snowy picture. old tv system you would be able to see easily just a bit of "snow" new system just blanks out the screen
the other possibility only occures if the timing is always about the same length of time... (you said 20 minutes for you but others might have more or less time.) the key here is ALWAYS - APPROXIMATELY THE SAME TIME - AFTER TV HAS BEEN OFF FOR HOURS -
this indicates a problem after internal temprature rises above a certian temprature.... you didnt say if new or have owned for a while but first thing to check is the air vents (slots in case) be sure they are clear. If it is a new machine and vents are clear return it... likely a bad solder job on as few as one connections. trying to fix will void warranty.
If out of warranty and vents are clear its time to open case BUT BE CAREFUL.... HIGH VOLTAGES STILL EXIST IN TELEVISIONS... BEST TO JUST NOT TOUCH ANYTHING WHILE CASE IS OPEN
you are looking for accumulations of dust. blow it clean with compressed air or the freon cans of compressed air if you don't have a compressor in your workshop.
I suggest you try machine while case is open... WARNING HIGH VOLTAGE CAN BE PRESENT.... see if it works beyond the usual malfunction time.... if it does, continue for 2 - 4 hours to verify no malfunction.... then close and again run for 6 hours or mor to verify problem is fixed
IF NOT FIXED it is likely a heat sensitive part or connection. if you feel confident working inside a high voltage machine you can test by running machine until malfunction occures then using canned "air" (freon type used earlier) to cool parts of motherboard. could be any capacitor or resistor or even ICs (integrated circuits)... hopefully it is an IC in a socket for easy replacement but what ever you cool with air when it works again needs to be replaced
the trouble might be just a broken solder connection too... so not needing to replace just re-solder
if you need more information on how to replace/resolder likely better to just buy a new one... after two years the cost is half that of original new.
but if you want to learn how to re-solder check out link youtube video
How to Do It Basic Soldering
Hello,
I have heard issue similar to this. Possible issues have been bad cable connectors or coax cable. Remove all external connections and see if the problem comes back. If not, then it is external to your TV. If the problem does come back it is possibly in the tuning circuit and will require repair or replacement of the TV.
Sincerely,
MPKramer

SOURCE: TV NOT WORKING
if you have no menu the tv needs service. Internal problem that cant be fixed with troubleshooting or settings...:(
SOURCE: Plasma TV moving black and white lines
This is a result of poor conversion of a SD signal on a HD channel. Go into your settings and adjust the h/v settings to move the line off the screen. You can do this with a combination of v-position or vsize.
SOURCE: VIZIO LCD VX20L, intermittant video/audio with Blue screen message "No Signal"
If the tuner is bad, changing the mainboard should fix the problem.
SOURCE: No picture (white screen)...
its a video cable or LCD connectors. remove and re-connect again.
SOURCE: VIZIO TV Black screen. Cannot turn off TV without unplugging.
I had a similar problem after having a Vizio for 2 and a half years. I
left the room for a minute, i came back and the screen went black. I didnt hear an arcing sound though.
There was still power to the unit and you could see that the back light
was working, just no picture, no sound, and you couldn't use any of the
buttons. The only way to turn it off was to unplug it. It would then
start up, with the Vizio logo going from orange to white, and then do
the same thing all over, no pic or sound. I would check the ceramic fuse first on the board that gets power from the plug.
HOW I FIXED MINE: I ordered a new "main PCB" from tigerdirectparts.com
(you can also use searspartsdirect.com). This is the circuit board with
all of the inputs on it (hdmi, cable, etc.) I opened it up,
disconnected the old one, put in a new one and now it works fine.I used
both serial numbers on the board to search for it online. It cost me
$144 to do it, but that's better than $450 for a new TV. My tv is the
vx32l hdtv10a. I hope that helps.
