Pentair minimax heater works but why is it making a chugging sound?

The heater is about 9-10 years old and I recently replaced the fan blades of the blower motor as the fan blades had completely rusted out. New fan works great and heater is working but makes chugging sound. Is this air in the system? When it chugs the entire unit shakes and the pipes to the pump also shake. When I turn the pump off and heater goes off, the chugging sound continues and sounds like water gurgling in the system. I did notice a bolt on the return manifold rusted out and cracked the edge of the bolt hole on the manifold but no water is leaking. Is this a potential source of the problem? Should I replace return manifold? Thanks for any advice on fixing the chugging sound.

Sounds like you have air in the system u will need to bleed it out while the pump is running.

SOURCE: Pentair Minimax NT 400 heater. fan keeps coming

Sounds like the controller is the problem. This is the circuit board that has the display and controls on it. You can swing that panel open and try tapping on the white plastic cover the controller is under that. This might get the fan relay to release but you will have to replace the controller it will stick again

the heat exchanger can be reamed or replaced but it is quite a job; replacing the heat exchanger is very expensive and time consuming. unless your pool chemicals are extremely out of balance, most especially low ph from using tablet chlorine or too much acid the heat exchanger should not have worn out this quickly. the best solution if you do not have a pool serviceman is to call Leslies Pool Supply or a trained Pentair service tech. It may be worth the service call to have the problem diagnosed by a pro.

SOURCE: nt mimimax heater showing error message and wont heat water.

I would not put any BIG money into that heater.Nothing but problems! I would recomend a Raypak/Rheem heater or a starite.

SOURCE: Heater Manifold Return Header Assembly 471991: I have water leaking from my minimax CH 200 heater...

This is likely a leaking heat exchanger. These usually fail due to improper water chemistry. This can happen in less than a year if the chemistry is messed up enough. Most culprits are putting chlorine tablets in the skimmer and running the pH or Total Alkalinity tooo low. HTH

I have a 6 yr old Pentair Minimax NT heater that just started leaking water. Is it worth it to repair it, or should I just buy a new one?

Buy a new one. I spent $650 beginning of season to replace the manifold that was leaking and now it is broken. Again. Had since new and every year it breaks, sometimes twice. 6 years of dealing with this piece of junk.

E04 comes on after fan purge cycle-Pentair minimax nt pool heater

This is a fan falure code. It can mean the fan has problems (not likley if the fan goes and isn't labored) You have a sensor in your exaust (probally not this if you don't get a good start) The culperet is probally in the negetive pressure sensor. This is a 2-3 inch disc with wires going to the controls and a rubber tube going to the fan. Pull the tube from the fan and make sure the fan fitting is clear (poke with a tooth pic) Be sure their are no kinks in the hose. If the heater is 4 years old the diaprahm could be bad in the pressure sensor. Check the other things first but this is probally your problem. Good luck, hope this helped.
