The problem is that the HD (hard drive) quit working. There could be some bad sectors. The only thing that you could do is to check the Disk Management on your computer to see if the HD would show up. To do this, please follow the steps below:
For Windows XP or Vista:
1. Connect the HD to the USB port of the computer.
2. Right-click the 'My Computer' (for XP) or 'Computer' folder (for Vista)
3. Select 'Manage' > Disk Management.
4. Write down the drive letters that you will see.
5. Unplug your Lacie HD while looking at the Disk Management
6. Check if there's a drive letter that would disappear.
NOTE: If there's a drive letter that disappears, that is your Lacie HD. You need to reconnect the HD to the computer and check the status. If the HD showed up as 'Unallocated Disk Space', you need to reformat the HD. But if the HD is no longer showing up even under the Disk Management, it's already useless.
IMPORTANT: Reformatting the HD would erase all the files. You need to bring your HD into the nearest Data Recovery Center near you to retrieve the files inside the HD. Data Recovery Center are the computer shops that offer data recovery/retrieval.
Hope it helps and have a good one!
When a disk makes a clicking noise, in most cases (99%) that means that the disk has crashed. i'm sorry to inform you that the data you had on the disk is lost, unless you are prepared to pay lots of money to a company that takes the disk apart to retrieve data manually.
