any dvd 6.5.59
dvd clone 2.9.2.2
It sounds more like your burning laser went out. DVD and CD Roms use two seperate lasers. One for reading and one for writing. I would check with the manufacturer to see if it is still under warranty to have it replaced

Hello there:
you might need to check to see the format of the dvd that you are trying to play ie dvdr vice dvd some devices will not play them if the format of the cd is wrong
Oddlly enough, you don't need drivers for the CD/DVD drives. They aren't even recognized unless you have a non-microsoft burning program. Those programs are worth updating. Find out what burning software you have--
I recommend downloading Belarc advisor, a free program which not
only tells you everything in your computer, with model numbers for
hardware and all of your software (with their unique codes), but will
also inform you if you are missing any needed Windows updates. Once
you know what you have, if it came withthe computer, you have to seek an upload at the computer manufacturer;s website, as it maybe a special program not related to the burning software purchased from the software manufacturer--in that case, go to their website for ugrades. Check config sys in control panel to see if you have a problem with anything (a big yellow check) which I assume you may have because of your question. One mofre warning; if you have problems, some unethical compuger manufacgtureres are selling Visa withonly 5112 MG RAM and an M chip, not even dual core. People generally agree that you will have alll kinds of woe unless you upgrade to at least 1 GB, and 2 is best. Good luck.
This is a common issue with NEC DVD burners, assuming that your NEC DVD burner cannot read and write DVDs anymore. I had a similar issue with my NEC DVD burner, which couldn't read and write CDs, but DVDs successfully. This is usually due to wear and tear of constant usage of the drive itself and sometimes mechanisms inside the DVD burner cease to work. While Windows Troubleshooting, uninstalling and re-installing the drive are suggestable, I am afraid the only option is a complete DVD burner replacement.
sounds like your dvd laser has failed if it reads other media as there are normaly 2 lasers one for reading cds and one for dvds try using a cleaning disc to clean the lenses
