Had no signal on moniter yesterday, plugged pc back in and has started up, now coming up with a black screen saying AHCI BIOS installed but wont let me do anything else
Sounds like the boot up routine is not even starting. Can you hear any sound of the hard drive running (not the fan)? It maybe that your BIOS has got corrupted and that's a major hassle.
You can
1) Format a USB memory key with the FAT mode.
2) Download the latest version of the BIOS from Acer support website:
but I would go first to the Acer website to support and ask for help.
http://www.acer.com/worldwide/support/
Enter your country and it goes to Support pages

The AHCI can be enabled from using the correct driver but you should have enabled it PRIOR to the OS install
Acer did not always do this but often relied on compatibility mode
The speed increase is often not that much.
The BIOS on that board can be updated but you may find that AHCI still does not work as you expect.

restart your computer repeatedly tapping the f8 key to enter safe mode while the screen is black once in safe mode where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse allowing you to attempt to repair your computer you could select the option start at last known configuration that worked this will tell you if and what file has been corrupted or missing then you will know if its a hardware issue for internal hard drives secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty if its a flat 40pin ide this will be the first to fail make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions
This could be a connection problem such as a bad cable
Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions IDE,SATA
the leads from your MOTHERBOARD TO THE HARD DRIVE make sure they have a
or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs power and data to travel through every working device and continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error
hope this helps
