In the USA, repair and service of a radio frequency transmitter requires a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd class FCC license. The other bad news is the radio probably uses a solid-state chip for tuning, so special tools will be needed to remove and install a new chip. This is best left to a factory repair center.

Sound does not work.

either is sound IC has blown, or the sound section of the tuner needs a repair. I have repaired many tuners for sound. Some technicians never repair a tuner hence it would need a replacement if it can be physically removed. If a tuner is printed on the main board the whole board may need to be replaced.

TV wont recognize lower channels

Your Tuner might be faulty but before replacing it there's also 1 thing to be checked.
You need to bring your unit to repair to checked the band switch I.C. before replacing the tuner.
Tuner is divided into 3 bands (VL,VH,UHF) since you have no reception on the lower channels, it seems that your VL bands is faulty that might be cause by defective tuner or Band switch I.C. located near your tuner.

Tuner of My samsung Tv (EV 500 model)is not working. is IC No. SZM 173ER2 is available now in market ? if so, from where can i get.

Tuners are available as a unit.
Repairing is not possible. Contact SAMSUNG with your TV model no or the part No. indicated on the tuner box.

There are two types of tuner 1. voltage synthesized. 2. Frequency synthesized. Check the type that is used in your TV and buy.

Sound only works with DVD

Tuner is lokely the cause or cable box that is hooked up is on mute.

If you have no cable box or sat system the cause would be a bad tuner at coaxe region there is ashort in the connection the brings the adio filtered from the tuner to the control IC AMp witch is part of the tuner assay what this means is bad tuner or bad control ic at coaxe region. Or its one of the causes above a device is on mute. Best of luck to you in your repairs. good feedback and ratings will be expected further in this diagnosis.

No color, only black and white

There are no bulbs inside this set to replace. This TV set is all solid state. That means it uses transistors and IC's to work. If the color is not there you could have a bad tuner assembly in this TV set and to replace that would cost you more then the TV set is worth. Sorry. Good Luck

Only receiving Channels 50 and above; no lower channels

It could be anything from corrupted data in the EEPROM (a memory IC that stores all the channel information and picture settings) which is usually caused by bad ground solder connections inside the tuner itself which is built into the main circuit board and would have to be repaired, not replaced or components inside the tuner section of the main PCB. With that being said - if you have to get a technican to come to the house and repair the set then it would probably be best to buy a new HDTV set. If you can take it to a repair shop capable of fixing the tuner, it could cost close to $200 to repair is my guess, and may work OK for another year or two before the picture tube finally wears out.

I cannot see the channels in my tv

If I understand your problem correctly it sounds as though when you watch your TV through the tuner you get nothing (no sound or picture) but when you watch it through the Aux inputs (with DVD or VCR) everything is fine. If that is the problem you either have a bad tuner or a bad matrix IC. I've seen both problems in this model and the cost to fix either is about the same. If you know TV safety and can solder unplug unit, remove the back, remove the main circuit board, remove the tuner from the board. This web address http://www.moteva.com/shop/customer/home.php?cat=267 has an original tuner for $18.00 US plus shipping. Install the new tuner and give it a try. If all went well this should solve your problem. If not you will probably need a service manual to locate the matrix IC. http://www.servicemanul.net for $16.00 US as a download. Locate the matrix IC. It should be on a vertical board on the left side. You should be able to get it at this website http://www.tritronicsinc.com This should resolve all your problems. If you can't solder or do not understand electronics you should have a repair tech fix it. Cost should not exceed $100 to $150 US. A free solution would be to hook up a VCR to the Aux input and use the tuner on the VCR and forget about trying to get channels through the TV tuner. It's your choice. Good luck and remember safety.
