Question about Vivitar ViviCam 5385 Digital Camera

Unable to open the dcim folder to view my photos

Hi I have hooked up my camera and have a window with three files, dcim, dcim,--0 and botex. the dcim,--0 folder used to look like a folder but i was unable to open it as it said something about the directory name is invalid. i troubleshooted it and they suggested that i use a converter to change the directory but my computer doesn't allow it. I did a disk clear up for the usb and after it changed the dcim,--0 folder to an unrecognized file. the camera is - Vivitar 5660/5662 digital camera.

When I connect my Pentax Optio 430RS into the USB, a folder pops up, containing two folders labelled, "DCIM" and "MISC". Usually, when I need to transfer my photos, I click on the DCIM file and copy paste. But now, the DCIM file reads as an application, and when I try to open it, it doesnt respond. Please help!

My DCIM folder has turned into a file which does not allow me access the photos I have in the folder. How do I get this back to a folder so I can get the 100s of photos I have there?

I have used CHKDSK in CMD and returns no errors in the card. The CHKDSK also showed that there are no folders but numerous files which add up to the photos I have taken.

Pics gone in DCIM folder. Using a Nikon s3000 coolpix camera, connected to computer, F:\s3000 is detected, within it is DCIM folder present, and within DCIM folder presents Nikon100 and Nikon101 folders,...

You cannot create new folders on an SD card and copy images to them, as the camera will not recognise them, since they were not create in the camera. Copy the entire contents of the card to a folder on your HDD, then format the card in the camera.

What is a DCIM FILE, How can I convert Into a dcim file. I would like to copy picture in my Camera it is copying but when I run the camera shows no picture.

The DCIM file is the folder is the folder which images or pictures taken are saved. Inside the DCIM folder should be should be one or more folders. The picture files are stored in one of these two folders. Look for the filenames that end in .jpg or something like DSC0001.JPG or DSC0002.JPG.

When you plugged in your camera to your computer's usb device, right click on your Start button, and choose Explore. The windows explorer window will open. Click on the (-) beside My Computer and the (-) beside Local Drive C: to minimize the list of folders. Now, you should be looking at the drive letter that defines your Camera. It could be drive E or F. Click on that drive and it will show your the contents on your right panel. Look for those folders and copy them to your local drive.

If you need further assistance, dont hesitate to ask or comment back.

Goodluck!

Missing dcim.exe file

Hi! I had same problem and fix it no time. Well this is trick! virus hide dcim folder and make only visible dcim.exe. 1. so anti-virus will delete that virus "dcim.exe" (or can you) 2. go to start/run and type cmd 3. there you type "attrib -s -h e:dcim" (assuming that your cam is assigned e:) Now go to My Computer and DCIM shoud be there!!

Sony memory stick PRO Duo 2GB Pc will not display photos on PC

Hey all actual solution...sort of will get you your files well it worked for me.

i have winrar on my windows 7 pc but should work for anything with winrar.

  1. open my computer
  2. right click memory stick pro duo
  3. click "add to archive"
  4. in the winrar window under format on the left hand side of the window half way down select "zip" format
  5. click "ok"
  6. once your files have archived the DCIM folder and MISC folder will be in the archived file and should be accessible from there
  7. NOTE: you cannot extract files after the archive has been created DCIM folder and MISC folder will still be invisible even if you extract them from the archive.
  8. Files can still be drag and dropped out of the DCIM folder onto desktop or chosen destination from the archived file.
Hope this has been helpful to all reading this and everyone who posted the problem :D

Unable to view the pictures folder

Hi, I got the solution for myself. Initially I have enabled to view the hidden folder option and even then I was not able to see the folder, then later I have disabled the options Hide Extensions for Known file types and Hide Protected Operating system files. Then I could see the folder and able to retrieve the photos. Once I have taken my photos I have formatted my MMC card and it is working normally.

Sony cyber-shot dsc-h2

hi,

Its simple..
After connecting USB to the laptop, a window will appear.
In that window, "select files to open".
It will open the DCIM.click and open the DCIM folder you wil find 101MSDCF folder.(for e.g.F:\DCIM\101MSDCF)
Select and delete all photos.

I did the same and i was able to get back memory.
I dont know whether its standard way of deleting photos from memory stick. Any support guys from sony camera can comment on it....

thanks

Memory card problems

what i did :
Tools>Folder Options...>View
i checked all options with title "display this and that kind of folders and files" and unchecked all "hide file" titles , and my real dcim folder appeared as transparent folder icon 100% usable.
if you already erased dcim.exe, try it anyway your folder should be there.

After copying your files from it format your memory card.
