Your problem is not a problem. DVR is programmed to record if he sees movement. Cancel this job and it will not be delayed or freezing. This is from software.

My Night Owl Security System DVR is not getting turned on, when I plug it in. I can see the red light turned on inside the dvr but no light or power on the front panel.

Link to Night Owl Support.

Ensure the HDMI cable is connected from the recorder to your TV/Monitor. Ensure you are tuned to the right HDMI input if your TV/Monitor has more than one. Try replacing the HDMI cable, to see if you have a faulty cable. Try connecting the recorder to another HDMI input or a 2nd TV/Monitor.

Firmware update fail on night owl fs84500

Same here. Updated firmware system rebooted and locked on the Night Owl screen. Mine is the FS-8500.( DVR model FS-500 ). Anybody find a fix to the issue? I believe the firmware is in the motherboard. Anyway to hook to PC and "push / force" the firmware into the DVR. Or some tyoe of master reset. Or is this thing bricked for good.

If it cant be fixed, do you know where I can get a new motherboard with firmware installed. Tried talking to tech support but am fighting with them over the issue. Pretty freaking useless over there.
