Audio problem when connecting to a PS3

I have a PS3 connected to my DENON AVR-1803 receiver via component for video and optical for audio. Video seems to be fine. With Audio though I can hear some sounds such as menus clicks and audio cds. I loose the audio when I go into games or try to play dvds or Blu Ray dvds. I believe the optical connction must be working if I can get some sound but just not 5.1.

I have updated the PS3 to the most recent version 1.94. I have the optical output, Dolby Digital and DTS selected under Audio Output Settings and Bitstream under BD/DVD settings. I have tried different optical cables and this is the second PS3 I have had the same problem on.

I can't get any sound from my PS3's optical output. I've tried changing settings and different cables like yourself but no joy. I might take it back to the shop. My equipment works fine connected to other components. I've e-mailed Sony but got no reply as yet!

I found that I could reboot the PS3 by holding down the Power On key for a few seconds until the system beeps twice. That seemed to fix the problem (I have been able to use Optical Audio out) and I have had no trouble since

It seems the Denon and PS3 don't play nice together on DTS. If you take off the DTS setting, then the PS3 will use DD and you'll get surround for games and movies.

How can I connect my I pod Touch to my Denon AVR 1803 receiver?

The best way to connect an older IPod or other MP3 player to the AVR-1803 is to use a 3.5 mm (M) to RCA audio cable. This will work for audio on all IPods (and video on some of the older IPods). Here's an example: http://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-Audio-Video-Cable-iPod/dp/B000STBSU4 . Connect the 3.5 mm end to the headphone jack; the RCA plugs go into one of the AVR-1803 RCA inputs.

For some IPods, try a connector like this: http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Unlimited-iPod-Connector-Cable/dp/B000CBFVXS . This connects to the docking port on the IPod.

I hope this helps.

How can I connect my I pod Touch to my Denon AVR 1803 reveiver?

Connect the 3.5mm cable to the iPod headphone output and the two RCA plugs into any unused analogue audio input on the Denon AVR 1803. Then choose the appropriate input on the Denon, press play and enjoy the music. Be careful about volume. Start with the volume on the iPad low and adjust to suit.
Cheers, Don.

What is the best way to attach a Sony SCD CE595 CD player SACD to a Denon AVR 2105 Receiver. I thought the optical input would be best but according to a web posting, toslink does not support SACD

That is correct. Digital connections through some models of SACD players are via "firewire", otherwise it is analog output. There are no optical connections.

The shortest pair of RCA cables, or even component video cable as an alternative will work.

No television sound from denon avr-3000

TV has Component input (Green,Red,Blue) connect as follows:

1. Connect Component Video and Audio cables from the Cable box, PS3, DVD or Sat box to thea Component Video and Audio input on the Denon (TV/DBS, DBS,VCR1 VRS2, VDP or DVD).
2. Connect a Component Video cable from the Denon to the TV Component Video input.
3. If you do not have a cable or sat box and have a cable from the wall to the TV you must take an RCA(Red&White) audio out of the TV to an input listed in #1

Denon AVR 588 7.1-- Sound setup questions

This reciever does not decode the audio through HDMI, the HDMI ports are simply a pass-through. To get audio you need to connect an optical audio cable from the PS3 to the reciever also. I figured this out after 2 hours of trying to get audio from the HDMI cable. Here is a link that shows the different audio formats supported through HDMI by the different Denon models. It looks like the AVR-788 is the lowest model that supports audio through HDMI. Hope that helps.
