Try pushing the home button. This is a temporary solution, but should work. After that, have your phone serviced by samsung's authorized service center. Provided that your warranty's still valid, they'll do it for free.
Mostly the problem is with the switch inside the phone, which you couldn't replace yourself.
sounds like you need a new phone but id take it to a where ya bought it and see if a different battery fix's problem. ive had a battery that would discharge all its juice at random and had that burn up a motorola. hope this helps
remove the battery and replace it after a minute. the phone should do a full boot. see if it works after. if nothing happens, you may just have to replace the battery. You don;t want to format anything unless you know how to reflash the phone.
Just a question, is there a button that has to be in a certain position while charging? I had a similar problem with my daughters ipod of a different company. I am not sure if this will help or not. I hope it does.
