You need a wire that receives 12v+ when the key is turned on to the coil+. Apparently the wire that you have hooked to the coil is bad or not the same one that runs to the ignition switch.
are you sure that the charger is putting out enough volts to charge the batteries? check the charger with a multimeter, then check the batteries with a multimeter, and viually inspect the batteries for bulging
