In order to reset the radio, power on while pressing both volume buttons
(+ and -) together with the PTT (speak) button, until you year a
high-pitched tone.
But I have found that the "stuck on receive"
problem is related to the battery voltage: non-rechargable AAA or
incorrectly charged batteries can give 0.2-1.0V above the nominal
voltage. Try to leave the radio on for a few hours or replace some of
the four AAA batteries with slightly exhausted ones and see if that
helps.
The XTR446 does not have "mute". But what you might be experiencing is a problem with the radios matching one another completely, such as the "interference code" being set differently among the radios. Check your frequency and code to see that they match the other radios exactly. Also, check your radio's mic hole for dust, dirt or debris. This can mute/muffle transmissions.
If this does not solve the problem, you may have a radio in need of repair.
The mini walkie talkie emblem has a variety of meanings. If the emblem has parenthese around it your PTT (push to talk) button is depressed, stuck or partially depressed. If the emblem does not have parenthese your radio is in receive mode, awaiting a call.
Also, if you find your radios are programmed identically, the other problem might be bad or low batteries, as it takes more energy to transmit than to receive.
Here is a link to a page with the XTR manuals. http://www.tedmontgomery.com/tutorial/altchrc.html You will need to click on the SUPPORT tab, then choose the appropriate user guide for your radio and language.
Check your Frequency, Code and Qt Filter (if any) to be certain they all match one another. For simple operations set the Code and Qt to zero (off).
