Hp 1050c plotter carraige belt grinding noise, funny movement.

Print head carraige moves all the way to the left and then I hear a grinding noise and then it moves all the way to the right hand side over the print head cleaners and then makes a grinding sound again and then I get error check print head path. Is it the encoder strip is dirty or not lined up? Can the print head carriage not be able to tell where its located? Carriage does move easily back and forth, rail oiled, belt looks good. Seems like it moving carriage past to where its suppose to be on the right and left.

Similar problem with a Z3100 photo, and what I eventually did was tighten the belt tensioner so the gear teeth on the motor gear can't slip, maintaining the position that is recorded in the plotter memory. Essentially the plotter moves the carriage away from the service station rather quickly and the motors belt gear skips a few teeth on the belt. It does this after it does the scan axis check. Interesting to note that the plotter does NOT use the encoder strip to check that it moves the carriage a certain distance, and only uses a quick burst of voltage to the motor to move the carriage out of the way. Quicker then I would prefer for a Designjet, but I didn't write the embedded code for this machine.

SOURCE: lubrication?

It does sound as though it could be a lube issue. Use a light white grease to lube the bar the head runs on. Do not use things like WD40 or 3-in-1 as they can be damaging. Also check that any FCC cable to the moving parts are not just catching on an inner surface somewhere. This can sound like finger nails down a chalk board.

SOURCE: My Hp officejet 4255 all

Hi There,

Thanks for you using FixYa.
The problem can be solved by repairing Motor/Roller.
It needs to have a shaft at both ends (dual shaft), and it takes some soldering and replacement of the black round plastic gizmo with tiny fingers around it back onto the shaft of the replacement motor as well as the tiny worm gear and the little green circuit board (has to be soldered onto the new motor).

You can order it cheaply at www.allelectronics.com and specify the above motor model but be sure to select the dual shaft one.

Regards
Ellin

SOURCE: encoder strip for HP 2175 xi

Here's the solution for fixing a carriage jam on your PSC 2315xi printer. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00042632&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=90812 But, you said the encoder strip came off. I always understood that if the encoder strip came off, the printer was dead. I've never tried to take the encoder strip off and put it back on again to see what happens. The encoder strip is what tells the carriage where it is. Without the encoder strip, the carriage doesn't know where to go.

We are receiving the error message Check Print Head Path Type 2 when trying to plot to our designjet 1050C. The carriage makes a slight clicking noise on the left side of the rod. Does anyone have a fix...

Upon power up, does the machine move the carriage assembly from one side to the other?

Generally, any message like that means the belt has a few teeth missing or is worn. The belt drives the carriage assembly to and fro. If the machine detects a slow down or stop, it will have you check the printhead path for obstructions. If there aren't any, then 9 times out of 10 it is a worn belt. Check for little pieces of black rubber under the belt and encoder strip.

I have also seen 2 other fixes: a dirty encoder strip (the plastic strip with little hash marks on it) and a faulty cutter. But most of the time it is the belt.

Does the HP DesignJet 1050c plotter have a counter?

This data is printed out on the Service Configuration Print

  1. Load the plotter with media.
  2. When the device is 'Ready' scroll the menu to the Printer setup options and press Enter.
  3. Once in the 'Printer Setup options' menu, use the arrow keys to scroll to 'Utilities', and press Enter.
  4. In the Utilities menu, use the Arrow key to scroll to 'Test Prints' and press Enter.
  5. Use the arrow key to scroll to 'Service Config' and press Enter to print the Service Configuration Print.
You should find the data you are after under the heading of Maintenance on the printout

Good Luck!

DESIGNJET 755cm ERROR MESSAGE: TURN OFF PLOTTER CHECK PAPER PATH. THERE IS NO OBVIOUS BLOCKAGE TO PAPER PATH

If there is no obvious obstruction in the print head path, the most likely problem is a worn carriage belt. Open the front lid and check for rubber crumbs under the carriage belt. If there are crumbs, the belt is disintegrating and needs to be replaced.

The service manual can be downloaded from: www.lpscomputer.com/ec/manuals.htm and the parts are available at: http://www.lpscomputer.com/c-736-designjet-1050c-belt.aspx

Check printhead path

Check for free carriage motion by unplugging the printer while the carriage is in the print area of the plotter. Open the top cover and move the carriage to check for free movement. If there are rubber crumbs under the belt, the belt is worn out and needs to be replaced. Manual can be downloaded from: www.lpscomputer.com/ec/manuals.htm

Magenta print head reseat.

i'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it sounds like your carriage assembly is bad. the slot that holds the magenta cartridge is defective.have the carriage assembly and trailing cables replaced. this should resolve your problem. these parts are becoming harder to find because of the age of the printer. carriage assembly part number is C6074-69388. trailing cable is C6074-60418 making the assumption this is a 36" plotter. also you can try cleaning the contacts on the carriage assembly. good luck!

Print head path

Sounds like a belt tensioner bearing going bad. That is if you haven't found any paper lodged in the way, the carriage bar is lubricated well and the belt is in decent shape. The belt tensioner is at the left end where the belt turn around. inside the wheel at the end is a bearing the starts to seize as it gets old and causes the error. You'll probably have to order a tensioner assembly. The part can be found on http://partsurfer.hp.com.

Here's a link to the complete service manual for the plotter.

Hope that helps you.
